You know when you go to a concert and there is usually a support band playing - this is because the main band want to warm up the crowd and/or promote a local band - why don't wrestling cards have this? I understand Vinnie Mac and co. wouldn't do something like it, but the likes of TNA etc. For example, at a TNA show in London, you could have a local indie company putting on a couple of matches before the main card. It could be like with the houselights on, so the crowd know the main card isn't performing yet.
I suppose the closest we have are dark matches?

Isn't that exactly what dark matches are?

That's also what the undercard is.

zero percent chance they'd risk burning the crowd out on earlier matches. dark matches are the closest thing to this idea that can exist

Isn't that exactly what dark matches are? I meant as in matches which would support local promotions, whereas dark matches more tend to support the wrestlers themselves.

They have used local guys as enhancement talent during cards, but it wouldn't make much sense for the WWE to promote a company that is in direct competition with them.
Paraphrasing what layzie said, you don't go to McDonalds and get served a Whopper Jr. as an appetizer.
