Variants have always been a favourite part of collecting for me. ToyBiz was probably the best with making them in terms of wrestling figures.
With the new Mattel Retro line, it looks like they're going with as many completely new figures as possible for right now, which is great, but it makes me wish they were doing variants so we'd get more versions of these guys.
Like, from Series 1, they could easily have changed up the colours/logos on Undertaker, Warrior, Roman and KO to give us variants which I know would have made me buy even more extras of the same figure.
With what we've seen announced (unofficial or not), anyone else hoping for this?
I know I'd be happy to see a few HBKs, Flairs and Stings come out.

A grey and black Undertaker with no hat would be awesome. He has had a lot of looks over the years, so they could put out a different look each year if they wanted.

I completely agree! Aside from a few running changes, Matty WWE has largely stayed away from variants.

Taker and Warrior have endless possibilities with all their looks over the years. If they keep going with this line no way will that be the only Taker we see.

I don't get why, painting a part a different colour or throwing a different logo on seems like free extra money to me. Especially if you collect MOC and loose, you could be extra encouraged to because you wouldn't have to get the exact same figure twice.

I wouldn't be surprised to see variants if the retro series continues to sell well.

I think if they're going to continue to split the waves, variants or running changes would be a good idea. They could have added a red, white, and blue Cena and a KO with a different shirt logo to cases with Warrior and Taker...just to give stores a little something different. Could that work MattelDesignTeam ?

Like some elites packaged different example cody Rhodes with the paper bag or john Morrison different colored jacket and Ted diabisae tights change to purple or green

I don't get why, painting a part a different colour or throwing a different logo on seems like free extra money to me. It isn't free for them to produce variants. And the few times Mattel have tried it in the WWE line weren't deemed particularly successful in terms of cost/reward, hence they have been hesitant to try it since.
