Kind of like how they did a few years ago with jim ross and michael cole.
I know some people probably like the current elite setup with the diorama and stands but what if mattel went to a build an elite figure instead. It would be a good way to slot in the manager types like mr fuji or like the mean gene that never saw an American release. With the current elite setup being usually 4 current, 2 flashback it could be a current person or a flashback that you build. Plus it would give mattel a greater chance at selling more of each figure in the line and reduce shelfwarming. Customizers would buy duplicates for extra prts in some cases. Of course if they picked the right person to build then it would increase the chances that a line would move better.
The usual problems would still exist as people would have difficulty finding certain figures and people would complain about having to buy figures that they don't want just to build someone they do, but I think it would be a better strategy as the build a figureand even create a superstar lines moved really well in my area.

It failed at retail. And if they did it in the regular Elite line, everyone on here would whine about how they had to buy Cena #37 or Reigns #5, or whatever figure they had to buy to finish the BAF.

No build a figure! I want mean Gene pretty bad but I wouldn't buy 4 or 5 elites at $20 a piece to get it. It's bad enough to buy 3 or 4 basics at $12 a piece to build the figure. It's a failure, please let's just kill the whole idea. Mean gene should be in the HOF line. Why the hell will they rerelease George Steele instead?!? Also why rerelease jerry lawler?? Wild Samoans?? Rerelease papa shango?? We are killing this HOF line off Tito Santana?!?!?! Wtf?! Gimme mean gene in a 2-pack with another big seller. The dioramas are useless to me as well.

I wish they would bring back the send away or something. I don't even buy anything besides the flashbacks but I'd be willing to buy some current to send in for s figure

Kind of weird how Mattel got rid of the stands intially but then just brought them back. If they were to have name tags rather than a stupid backdrop I think it be more successful. Regardless of the matter, I think it's a waste and I wonder how they even get the stands in the budget when they can't even supply kneepads or elbow pads on certain figures.

I never understood why they never made the backdrop of name part of the package. Like cut it out and then you have it or don't.

No why should people have to buy figures they don't want just to build one they do want. Like if there's 5 figures in the series you don't want you will need to buy them to to own that one you want bad idea

I'd prefer managers and announcers etc. to be released normally/in a standard line... but if BAFs are the ONLY way we can get certain figures (like Paul Bearer and Mean Gene), then I'm all for it... I'd rather they have some sort of release, than none at all. No why should people have to buy figures they don't want just to build one they do want. Like if there's 5 figures in the series you don't want you will need to buy them to to own that one you want bad idea True - in theory, but it seems to work well in other lines (eg. Marvel Legends and DC Multiverse).

The worst part is they would not release the BAF parts evenly. A case would have 3 Cenas with legs 2 Brays with Torso 2 Orton with arms and 1 Curtis Axle with Head. This made no sense to me. Why would you purposefully eliminate the chance of making an equal amount of BAF figures? Does anyone remember the Curtis Axle? It came one to a case, it had a cool white belt, it was a new figure in the line, and it came with a BAF piece. I ran into these with the BAF piece missing, or the belt missing.

Should just make figures of Mean Gene Okerland, Michael Cole etc instead of having to buy a whole lot of figures to get all the parts

Its been said before but the figures you're buying should match the person you're building. If I am someone who wants a Mean Gene figure then chances are that I have no use for Cesaro or Rollins. Give me guys like Macho Man, Ricky Steamboat, Ultimate Warrior, Honky Tonk Man, Hillbilly Jim, Jake Roberts, Roddy Piper, etc to build Okerlund.

Didn't get Axel til about 3 months after I got the other 3 from that series.

Not at all for this. Would end up paying $20 for figures I don't want if I really want the BAF. So while its s good business move I don't support the strategy.

Sounds cool but there is never a whole set or rarely more than 2 or 3 figures in a wave that I want to build anything and would probably prefer belts and accessories like stairs, chairs, tables etc
