Anyone seen this on Netflix? It's a documentary about Hogan's case against Gawker.
The synopsis blasts Hogan for being a wealthy and powerful figure using his influence to shut down critics and are likening him to Trump.

Hogan's lawyer from the Gawker case is now working on behalf of the current First Lady in defamation lawsuits.

This is a ruse orchestrated by the corporate slime over at the World Television Network. If I know anything about karma, that bastard Brell is in for a real shock when the Hulkster gets a rip at him...

The synopsis blasts Hogan for being a wealthy and powerful figure using his influence to shut down critics and are likening him to Trump. Hogan at the time was far from being a "wealthy" figure. He was just destroyed by Linda in the divorce. Be that as it may, he certainly wasnt destitute either. I dont see how Hogan used money or power to shut critics down. He lost his WWE job, railroaded in the divorce and now was having not only his private sexual life exposed to the world, but was having the finger pointed at him for being a racist. This was national news and the man was shamed everywhere. As far as whether he really had a case...Im torn. I dont think he should have his sexual life blasted all over the internet to be seen. He certainly was not aware of the fact that he was being filmed. But then again, thats part of the risk in the celebrity life. I would say a lean towards Hogan, especially considering he never consented to being filmed and was not in a public domain. But I think since it was already out there and available to just about anyone who wanted it, he should have looked to get a percentage of the distribution versus putting Gawker out of business. It cant be unseen. I definitely do not see the correlation to Trump. Trump doesnt have a sex tape, he is trying to recover damages on. The finger of shame is pointed at Hogan, more so for his use of the N word, than having a sex tape. Trump is having the finger of shame pointed at him for mostly made up stories by the Democrats who are ing butt hurt.

I'm not going to touch most of the bullcrap nonsense you posted, and I can't speak for this documentary but the overall concern with the Gawker case is that Hogan had a wealthy man funding his lawsuit. This man (can't remember his name atm) was pissed off at the owner of the site and used this case to extract his revenge. It sets a very generous precedent in many people's opinions.

Did the documentary blast Hogan for being a wealthy and powerful figure out did it blast him for using a wealthy benefactor with a grudge against Gawker to fund his lawsuit?

It seems like this film is saying that rich people are trying to take away our freedom of speech/freedom of the press.
But is a scummy website like Gawker posting hidden camera sex videos of the Hulkster really what free speech is all about? Or is it just creepy?
And no one benefited from watching that tape. Everyone who saw it suffered - just like that videotape from The Ring.

I'm torn on how to view Hulk. On one hand we hear a lot of stories, a few on this board, of fans meeting him and him being nice. You can chalk it up to him being paid for his autographs but being paid doesn't always equate a celebrity will be nice. On the other hand, you have a guy who was on top of wrestling for 15-20 years and thought he was untouchable. I wouldn't doubt if he even knew the sex tape would come out, he would still say the N word thinking he would be untouchable. Just look at the jailhouse conversation between he and Nick. It was all about them. Hulk taught his son how not to think of others first and do whatever you please and you will be untouchable.

My wife and I started it, got about 35-40 mins into it, and tapped it out. The name itself is eye-rolling cornball hyperbole.
"Evil rich (white, conservative) capitalists are trying to take away YOUR first amendment right to ignore cease and desist letters regarding the removal of private sex tapes from your websites and they're trying take away your right to post un-cited, non-verifiable news stories on an international platform about entities and political figures you don't like!"
It was the modern day equivalent to a 1950's radical Christian propaganda scare film about staying away from "the gays" or smoking "the devil's reefer".
Complete ad nauseam that affects no private citizen directly.

i thought the documentary, probably unintentionally, painted gawker as the true bad guys imo. they are despicable, classless people who exploit others under the guise of journalists. them, happy to see them go down. it was AMAZING to see hogan playing character on stand when he tried to seperate the public character of hulk hogan with the real life terry bollea. 'are you speaking about hulk hogan's penis or terry bollea's penis?' lmao

Peter Thiel was the one who's motivation was to put Gawker out of business, not Hogan. Thiel used Hogan's case as a weapon against Gawker after they wrote about him being gay, plus many other distasteful about his private and professional life. Hogan's motivation for the case was to remove the short segment of the released tape before the full version surfaced which contained his racist comments. Many think if he hadn't gone to trial, his racist comments never would have been made public.

I'm surprised this one hasn't been locked yet. I'm sure Marino has been getting some complaints. It happens every time.

Politicians broadly dismissing unfavorable news coverage is a threat to democracy, and Peter Thiel is clearly a litigious troll. However, Gawker published a sex tape and refused to take it down. This isolated case is extremely clear and Gawker was very obviously in the wrong, so I'm glad the Hulkster dropped the leg on them.

My fiancé and I got about thirty minutes into it and we both were like "you mind if we watch something else?"
Lol
From what I saw, my take is that they tried to make a sex tape thing about first amendment rights.
Gawker is the epitome of what I hate about the media. Lots of people make sex tapes. Lots of people say bad things behind closed doors. Just because someone is famous doesn't mean they should be slandered about by click bait titles.
I don't think the first amendment is really meant to protect dirty news topics solely because "we have the right to"
But him talking about Hulk Hogan's penis had me laughing out loud
