What a great heel he was! If ever you need to watch someone on how to wrestle as a heel, look no further! I was watching his match against Ricky Steamboat, cant remember the ppv but its from the WCW greatest ppv's dvd and he was great in it. Look at his facial expressions and the gestures he would do to wind his opponents up, I was seriously impressed with him. It was a great match and I loved the way Austin wrestled back then, watch him throw a punch he would put his weight behind everything and It looked so believable, I just loved his wrestling style.

I've always loved stunning Steve. Rude was my wcw favourite but Steve was closing in as time went on. He was starting out when I first hit into wrestling. Little rough round the edges when he was in the USWA but when he hit WCW and grabbed the TV title shortly after debuting I was a fan. Great as the upcoming heel in the Dangerous Alliance and grew so much in the Blondes with Pillman. His run in 93-94 seemed to be perfect to go up against the then face Flair but no. Hogan was on the horizon and still can't believe they jobbed him out to Hacksaw, he was wcw's equivalent of Hbk at the time as many mags were saying and to treat him like that was ridiculous.
Another sign of wcw no realising what they had and looking at the future-they did tell him he'd never get anywhere in just black boots and trunks lol!
Obviously worked out for the best for him in the long run but a great star of that time.

Yeah he was a great heel during his time in WCW. Loved his runs as TV and US Champion.

I still prefer his Tag Title run with Pillman over his singles runs in WCW.
Years ago I made up a Hollywood Blondes DVD set, and it started on a Saturday Night show where Barry Windham said he found a partner for Brian Pillman, and it was Steve Austin, the greatest TV Champion ever. And on that show Pillman and Austin were victorious and that started their run for Steamboat and Douglas. Such a great tag feud that was too.

there's something about watching steve prior to his stone cold persona that is downright captivating imo - you can literally see him struggling to harness the skills and potential he had in wcw, ecw and his early wwf days. i think steve is a naturally shy guy and to get over this he HAD to turn the volume up to 11 every time.
he finally harnessed that explosiveness as stone cold - watching his attitude era matches, it's crazy the wild energetic attacks he would put on people out of no where and how much the crowd would pop at this.
i always wonder how much his career was diminished by that neck injury which, despite hiding well, damaged his inring ability to no fault of his own.

I was always more of a WWF guy as a kid but from what I remember of watching WCW my dad I and loved the Hollywood Blondes. Who would have known what they would turn into (and what Pillman would have further turned into had it not been for the injuries and his untimely passing).

I don't think he thinks highly of the gimmick himself, or at least he struggled with his wrestling gear before settling into black trunks as Stone Cold, but I absolutely loved Stunning Steve. His TV title matches were amazing to watch, he made all his opponents look great.
I wish Mattel would make a Stunning Steve flashback.

Loved the Hollywood Blondes, but Stunning Steve on his own I wasn't quite sold. If he had stayed I feel like he would have broken out above the pack in WCW without question and been one of the all time WCW greats, just as he did in WWF but he also made the right choice jumping when he did,

I know that I'm in the minority, but I've always preferred "Stunning" Steve to "Stone Cold" Steve. The Stunning persona allowed Austin to be more diverse in his ring work and his promos. I remember laughing uproariously when Austin told Hacksaw, "I'll punch you in your good eye", and when Austin did a faux martial art stance to mock Ricky Steamboat, which ended the promo with a theatrical "Heeeee-yaaaaah!"
While I respect the pop culture phenomenon that Stone Cold became, seeing Austin reduce his repertoire to mostly punches and stomps wasn't nearly as exciting to me. Likewise, I enjoyed the narcissistic, slick Stunning mannerisms to the beer-swilling and Southern colloquialisms of Stone Cold. However, I've always contended that some of Stone Cold's best moments, in and out of the ring, were in big programs where he let some of the old Stunning aspects cleverly creep into the Stone Cold character.

Stunning Steve was one of the reasons I loved early 90s WCW and Austin had a great career even before becoming Stone Cold.

Stunning Steve Austin was good, but if you would have told me back then that he would eventually be in the caliber of Hulk Hogan, I would have laughed.

I've often said Stunning Steve > Stone Cold. He was so smooth in the ring during this time. I had saw him a bit in USWA and he quickly became a favorite of mine. When he joined wCw I knew it was a matter of time till he reach the top. I supported him so much that at one local wCw event my friend and I were the only two in the building cheering for him. He turned and gave us two thumbs up.

It's weird, but I just never could get into him as Stunning Steve. When Stone Cold first got going it was hard for me to believe this was the same guy.
