Not that any of you really care to know...but I train dogs for a living at a place that shall remain nameless. But lets just say it rhymes with WetShart. I met and fell in love with one of my superiors and the big boss just found out today.
Policy states that no manager and an associate can see one another outside of work. We knew what we were getting into when we got together.
Now, since the HNIC found out, she was going to fire her. I decided it would be better if I fell on my sword and took the hit instead. Now I have one month to find a job in good ol Alabama and I don't get to do what I do best. I really love dogs and because of some antiquated policy, I won't be for too much longer.
It is what it is. Figured I would vent to a bunch of strangers.
-Cheers

This girl must really mean a lot to you to quit your job for her!
And secondly, that is a really stupid messed up policy that place has for dating within the work place.

Not trying to be a dick, but it's not a stupid policy. It sucks that he had to lose his job, but workers dating superiors could lead to all sorts of problems. What happens if they break up? How do we know she would remain professional? It's common sense.

I agree with the policy. Romance gets in the way of business. They should consider other options first, though. Like not scheduling you together or offering a transfer to another location.

Why don't you consider starting your own dog training business? Maybe go to people's houses or something and offer to train them.

Transferring isn't an option because there aren't any positions open. And no unfortunately where I live there are no other places that will allow me to do what I do. And I don't have enough money to start up a business.
At least some of you guys weren't dicks with your replies.
We knew what we were getting into when we got together. It wasn't like it was "supposed" to happen.

Surely there are some groomers or dog day care places around. Or even shelters or vet offices. Can't hurt to try.

I met my girlfriend at work and she was technically my manager at the time. I don't recommend it but if it happens, it happens. Our higher bosses didn't care because we both busted our asses while working there and were valuable to the company.

So are you still with the girl you lost your job for? And I would just get any job you can at the moment until you figure out your next move man.

Hopefully this girl will always remember the sacrifice you made for her. That took balls. I'm sure you'll find another job, just apply to different pet stores since you have experience, which is always a plus. Best of luck.

I would imagine it takes little to continue what you like doing. I see signs for pet walkers all the time, why not offer your services directly to people?

So this was the only place where you could train dogs? Yeah I mean I know the job market sucks, but I am a grade 5 autodidact and finding ANYTHING right now in Chicago, IL (our economy and everything is worse than 'Bama--believe me--and if it's so bad, move to FLA where there's no state income tax.....) is impossible. I just kicked heroin and am sick as a dog--no pun intended. I wish I could just talk to some of my friends but am on so many conditions while getting my crap straight so I can move out of this expensive state... Just go apply at another pet shop, dude. I mean crap this is minor. At least you have a girlfriend and not a "girl problem"... This place...

I'm not making excuses for myself, but my god, if I let the things some people here let bother them, I'd be dead 29 years ago. This is 1-year-old b.s., gals. Life's a bitch, yeah. But there's no need to let it turn you into one.
