In the 1980s promotions would run on Christmas yearly. Back then wrestling was hot. Today it isn't. Bad idea!

According to Beth Hardy it's from USA. Seems like with these type of decisions and them wanting to keep Raw at three hours, and I am assuming they also want Smackdown to be on Tuesdays, it looks like they really want to oversaturate and keep everyone unhappy. But like others have said, just do a taped show or special. Edit: And don't forget, it's not just the talent/superstars, there's also everyone behind the scenes and at the arenas that have to be there too. A lot of people to consider who may want to be at home with their families. Yeah, I gotta wonder where the execs at USA who make these decisions are spending the Holidays....probably at the comfort of home with family.

At my previous job, I worked closely with the owners and it seemed like the higher ups came and went as they pleased. My hours were 8:30-4:30. Most days they wouldn't show up until 3 or 4 then they would keep me in meetings until like 8:00. They exploited a legal loophole to not pay me overtime but if I came in late I would get charged for vacation time or docked pay.

I'm all for live events, but these guys travel almost all year. Give them Christmas with their families!

Imagine if Punk returned on Christmas night in Chicago... it'd be one hell of a Christmas 'present'.

This sucks for the talent because they already work year-round without a break and should be given the time to be with their families. Nobody is going to be watching anyway. Why couldnt they just air the annual Tribute to the Troops episode in that spot?

Maybe it's just my family's way of doing things, but we are usually done and everyone is back home by 5-6 o'clock at the latest. By 8 Christmas night, I'll just be doing the same thing I do every year. Questioning whether or not Santa Claus from Hardrock, Coco, and Joe is racist, and flipping channels to see if Mickie's Christmas Carol is on.
So while I would be okay with them taking the day off, I will be watching regardless.

Christmas Day is generally one of the busiest Non-Weekend days of the years for theatres, so I can understand where USA would want to run a live show instead of pre-taped one.
It really sucks for all the talent involved and their families. Maybe WWE do the right thing and bring the talents family to Chicago so they can all be together, it would only be the humane thing to do.
