2003 was generally an awesome year for WWE. I don't know what you're talking about. People crap on 2003 Raw all the time due to HHHs strangle hold. 2003 was arguably SDs best year but considered one of the worst for Raw by many fans. What did people want? For Scott Steiner to win the WHC? He wasn't over enough in WWE and was pissing the fans off with his poor performances due to drop-foot. So, who then? Goldberg? They were right not to put their eggs in his basket, he'd lost interest and left a year later. RVD? He was red hot at the time, but proved three years later when he had his time at the top that he couldn't be trusted. Booker T? Yes, he was mistreated at WrestleMania, but can anyone honestly explain to me why they thought he was the man to run with the brand? I don't buy that. He was an entertaining upper-mid-carder, and I'm positive he would have been a failed experiment as a major player. Who does that leave? Michaels didn't want the title, Jericho was red hot as a heel at the time so a programme with him wouldn't have worked, The Rock had one foot out the door, and Austin was retired. Triple H was the only reliable hand they had to pin their hopes on. I completely understand why everything came back to him at the time. |

The WWE knew he had drop foot, and that HHH was dealing with deep thigh bruises in early 2003 yet booked them to go at it in 30 minute matches with no stipulations. They did Scott, and HHH, no favors by not protecting them and booking them in normal matches. They should have been booked in 10 minute street fights. Booker T got it the worst. He had the fans behind him and should have won at WM19. No excuse for that. I agree that RVD couldn't be trusted (and proved it 3 years later), but he was arguably the most over guy in the company. It's crazy that they didn't even experiment with a quick 1 month reign in 02/03 like they did with Jeff Hardy in 2008. Though between him and Booker, I feel that Booker should have gotten the nod to win the big one. Goldberg lost interest after the bad experiences during his first 6 months. He has said this in interviews. From putting him in a wig, to Evolution making a mockery of him at SummerSlam, he lost his passion. Nobody is saying that all of these guys should have gone over HHH. That would have been worse than what we got. But the fact that RVD, Booker and Kane all ended up in far worse shape after feuding with HHH than before made the Raw main event scene that year miserable. Like I said in my OP, I've been rewatching episodes of Raw from that year and enjoy a lot of it. It's the main event scene that left a bad taste in a lot of fans mouths. |

A WWE writer from Raw 2002 said that RVD was penciled in to be the first World Champion of that brand, but they went with Triple H instead. Thus why we got Triple H vs. RVD at Unforgiven 2002 that year for the World Title. |

I'd have honestly booked RVD to win the first elimination chamber. HBK winning was cool but his 1 month title run did nothing for the title or him as he was already a top star (even after being gone for 4.5 years).
I'd have had HBK eliminate HHH. Jericho could eliminate HBK later on after a HHH distraction which leads to an RVD victory. HHH and HBK can still have their three stages of hell match the next month, while RVD defends the WHC again Jericho. HHH and RVD win their respective matches, and if the WWE isn't happy with RVD as champ, HHH can take the title back at the RR.
Jericho can gloat about how he eliminated HBK in the EC, which can lead to their match at WM.

I'd also have never gotten rid of the IC Title. Bring Steiner in as a heel like he was in WCW and have him beat Kane clean for the title. This way he can be the heel we all love and not have to be forced into a face role against HHH. HHH can remain the top heel in the main event while Steiner runs the IC Title scene.
Steiner can then feud with Booker and eventually put him over at WM. Booker holds it until around SummerSlam where he then puts over Christian.
With this post and my previous posts booking, the WM19 Raw card would look something like...
Austin vs Rock
WHC
HHH vs RVD
HBK vs Chris Jericho
IC Title
Steiner vs Booker T
Women's Triple Threat for the Women's Title
This leaves Kane as the odd man out, but he was floundering in the tag scene with RVD around this time. I'd put him in the pre show.

I actually never really had big issue against Triple H's reign of terror besides 2 parts to it. Before I start I like the ''HHH Vs. WCW'', I never looked it at that way.
But I actually really liked Raw in 2003. I also really liked SmackDown in 2003. 2003 imo was very good in 2003. And it's shame to see how low SmackDown dropped in 2004-2006. I only really liked SmackDown's main event scene in 2004/early 2005.
But to the Reign of Terror, I never liked Goldberg. I never will. I feel his run in 2003 should bring less humanity to Goldberg. I would just bring him on reign of terror that would end at WM 20. I would of never had him go over Triple H for the World Title. And the Summer Slam 03 hissy fit was such bs. Triple H in 2002/2005 was at the top of his game. I would give RVD,Booker T,HBK, or Kane the belt following Summer Slam, still have HHH win it back by December. Keep everything up to flow till Unforgiven 04.
I'd keep Randy as champ till NYR 05. I feel Orton could of easily carried the belt. I feel Orton was ready against the common view.

Kane killing the McMahons and RVD was great. You have to admit though Linda McMahon putting Kane under house arrest was silly and him tombstoning her only to show up fine not too long after was intelligence insulting.
It's a miracle I didn't stop watching wwe in 2003 because of how bad it was. Not only Raw. On Smackdown we had Mr America, Torrie vs Sable in a bikini contest being one of the main events for a ppv, and the horrible Stephanie vs Vince McMahon feud in which Steph showed what a terrible actress she is.

rvd was busted years later. there's no excuse on why the wwe didn't push him...he could've been the next big thing in wrestling in my mind no question.
also, it was pot he was busted with. who really cares?
as for triple h's strangehold, i like it only from the perspective that he was trying to recreate a dominant enduring heel champion literally molded off harley race's nwa top reign. even how he'd put guys over would be similar. problem was this was in 2003 and no one wanted to watch triple h start every raw with a 20 min promo.
it was the beginning of the end of good times.
