So!
I am a working man, I toy hunt as a hobby, but for me to be at TRU when they open the morning of Truck - not going to work.
My store gets their shipments Mondays, so usually I am good finding a few things on Tuesdays.
Since joining the boards, you awesome folks have provided me with item numbers and UPCs for new items, so i can easily disarm store clerks and typically if I have a UPC or sku, they will hunt the back or the telzon for me.
Today, I rpovided the asst manager the UPC for the Main Event Ring and the spotlight TJ Perkins
They had 2 cases of Perkins on truck yesterday - Sold Out 3 cases of Rings yesterday - Sold Out
This to me screams scalpers, what do you all think? Any tips?

Not a chance it's scalpers. No way. They're probably lying to you about them being sold out. Which is weird because the easier lie would be to tell you they don't have them, but never underestimate the average idiot TRU employee. But there's no chance a scalper would buy all that.

It was the assistant manager lol he had the telzon in hand. Also some more background info, this is the only toys r us for 60 miles and it serves 2 large areas ( Colorado springs and Pueblo Colorado)

I worked at a TRU several years back, those ers are relentless. Sometimes they'd show up before we got there to open the store. Unfortunately there's nothing you can do about them. We're free to buy whatever we want in America. TRU could implement a limit per customer but I don't ever see that happening. It would be a hassle for the employees, plus they don't care who buys their products and why, just so long as they get their money.

What about doing the buy online ship to store move to make sure they have it for you? I know some people don't do that because they want to see the card first, but it could be a way. Sorry you deal with scalpers in your area. Scalpers ruin so many things for ordinary folks that want the same stuff. Not cool to make money off taking advantage of people....
Just my 2 cents, if it is even worth that.

Stores around me are simply poorly stocked but it's also possible things are popping up as sold out because no one entered them into the system. Happened to me with Marvel Legends a few weeks ago. I had some in my hand and it wasn't ringing up. The cashier literally told me they were out of stock. I was like "You're holding it. So clearly you have it." She kept punching in codes and she called a manager. The manager couldn't figure it out either. The line was getting long behind me and people were starting to get upset. So I was finally like "Forget it." And I just left. No wonder why Kmart is on the verge of going out of business.

I'm convinced store employees are scalpers Dunno if they're necessarily scalpers but I can say with reasonable certainty from my time working at a Best Buy that it wouldn't be terribly ridiculous for the employees to scoop things as they're received.

It wouldn't surprise me if scalpers lurked on this board in the "Figure findings/store reports" page.

it's a scalpers world guys, do you think the Chinese factory workers think "I love working here! I am overpaid and under worked!!!"
a vicious cycle, we are all part of it and sometimes guilty of being on top of the Fig Chain

Its employees for sure. I worked at Tarhet in 2008 and TRU in 2009, I watched employees pay off the night shift vrew that did unloading and made sure _____ was scanned into a bay on the shelves that was left vacant for that employee. It would show ____ was received and sold out. Then the employee could rerecieve it in inventory adjustments so it went undetected by managment thanks to the Receiving guy. I watched guys that came in on early shift go in the back and raid replenishment carts. Target's #1 scalped toy was Star wars TRU at the time was GIJoes, Star Wars, McFarlane Sports Picks, and Neca Gears of War figures. When I left TRU, they were starting a new "buy after shift" rule where your wants were up for grabs by customers until you purchased them. Which is why the night shift would get paid off with smokes, Friday night shift changes, and lunch money.

It's absolutely for sure 100% the employees. I guess its how some people work at TRU for so long - buy the hottest toys and sell em on eBay.

It wouldn't surprise me if scalpers lurked on this board in the "Figure findings/store reports" page. I dont lurk. I post too. Bottom line is if you want to call the guy buying from TRU to resell on ebay, then you have to call TRU scalpers since they are buying from Mattel to sell in their store. In all honesty, by that definition, wouldnt you need to call Mattel scalpers as well? You are ticked cuz the guy buying from TRU is selling at 2-3 times the TRU price, which is 2-3 times the Mattel price, so on and so forth. But Mattel is the REAL price inflater. Probably costs them $.50 an elite figure to make and they turn around and sell it to TRU for $8 a figure. The bottom line is you dont expect Mattel to sell the figure to you for $.50 and arent upset at them making a big dollars, but you, as in many people here, get upset cuz some schmuck is doubling the price the price that TRU has tripled from Mattel. Capitalism...what makes America great!

That doesn't sound like a scalper to me. Sounds like an employee skimming from the stock!
I know when I was a tyke, my local TRU had an actual limit on how many wrestling and baseball figures you could buy. I think it was two (of the same figure). My grandpa collects Starting Lineups so he would have to limit his. He usually bought one for MOC, one for loose and one for a player to sign. So he was really out of sorts.
But to answer the scalper question, I don't know how to deal with them. They make me angry from a collector and from a personal stand point. I've been a collector all my life. It is dreadful to go into stores and not being able to find what I want because of a greedy scalper. And personally, now that I'm 26, I feel bad for kids who miss out because of scalpers. There is a HUGE difference between a seller and a scalper. My buddy owns a store and sells at decent prices. He usually picks one or two for stock. However I've seen scalpers who pick up a bundle and sell at crazy prices. It's sad.
Funny story...I went into Target one day and found two Nia Jax figures. I got them both because I wanted one to trade for a future figure (I always find myself needing one that I cannot grab in stores). I felt soooo bad when I left. Like maybe some kid would have wanted the spare one I really didn't need. So that's the one and only time I've ever picked up two of one figure. I think I felt extra bad since she is one per case. I wouldn't have felt guilt had it have been a Ziggler or Cena lol. Anytime I pick up extras is from the Internet for customs now. I leave extras at stores for kids. It's rough. It's rough for true collectors like us and kids.

The "why" part of this isn't important, Ricochet. The fact is that you're having problems getting certain figures and you need a solution. Most of us have been there at one point or another, and the solution is getting out-of-area friends and family to help you. Take some pics of what you're seeking, send your helpers the specifics of pricing, and be ready to wire/paypal them the funds quickly if they can't wait to be casually paid back. I've always felt that this was an essential tool, especially for exclusives, to avoid paying extra online.

Imo people who buy up loads of toys to sell them for double the price on eBay are the true definition of tool bag.
