The Legends line needs to come back. No question.

This has been discussed countless times over the course of the past few years. I'll summarize why the Legends line hasn't worked out with Mattel:
-Their introductory series choices have been weak. -Their time between series has been questionable. -The stores' ordering practices have been devastating. -Incomplete factions.

I don't think an entire line is needed. Sprinkle them into elites, basics, and HOF. I know it must suck if you only care about older guys, but I don't think an entire line would ever move the numbers desired. Even when the legends line was in full force YEARS ago, I always saw the figs warming hard in my area of SC. Also, even the legends peppered into the current lines collect dust.
I remember being a kid and only being able to get maybe 4 figures a year. If they are kids like me in 2017, I'm not wasting a rare chance to get an elite my mom doesn't like spending $20 on with somebody like Earthquake or Brian Pillman.
But at the very least, I think they should do online only lines you get directly from Mattel or RSC and put out a few a year for the hardcore collectors.

As much as I would love it, I'm not sure a separate Legends-type line would work now... mainly because the vast majority of big names and characters have already been released (in multiple attires too). I mean, people are already complaining there are too many Warriors/Macho Mans etc. as it is. So you'd mainly be dealing with lesser-known/less-wanted attires for big-name guys or re-releases (...spit!) catering for new collectors or those that missed out on the figures the first time... neither is ideal for a separate line to flourish.
Things were different around 2012/2013 - but Mattel had just been burned by the failure of the Legends line, so were obviously reluctant to try a separate line again.

I have been waiting on Greg Valentine forever! I wonder if he will ever be made? Or a Roddy Piper in a t-shirt other than "hot rod".

Bill said years ago, any legend not named Savage or Warrior didn't sell. It's the same thing now. 80s legends collectors are a dwindling fan base. "Retro" now is Attitude Era. It's hard to argue with this. I mean, I'd personally take a Raven or any of the Oddities over say, Beefcake or Rick Martel or someone like that. Anyone who would buy a Golga over a Rick Martel should delete their account😂

I'm fine with the way they were releasing them in the elite line. Now we're in a weird position where there haven't been any fb figures lined up. I'm hoping Mattel is just waiting it out because they have some cool releases coming. I just want a few figures that should of been made a jeans DDP and a new scan, a black trunks white boots lex luger, a '98 with his part selections fixed and a Kidman. I'd be content for a while.

What doesn't help is that figures have gone up so much since then. 10+ years ago I would go into a shop and buy a wrestler from the CS series, I didn't know who he was but for that price I couldn't argue either it was a new figure. Now figures are £20, I'm not going to spend that on a figure I've never heard of. I'd rather keep that money and wait until a figure I do want comes out.

I'm with a lot of people on here, I don't think you have ten series worth of legends that will sell well enough to warrant an entire set. Just keep inserting them into TNF, main line, and Target HOF and you will be just fine. If this was four or five years ago that's one thing but now I don't think it will sell.

If they released a set of 4 every quarter, they can easily get years out of the line. Make it a flashback line. 16 per year. Allows the 6 in the elite sets to be all current. It's a win win for all collectors.

I'm just bummed about how incomplete the Macho Man figures feel. We rarely get a shirt and only once have we gotten a jacket.

I have been waiting on Greg Valentine forever! I wonder if he will ever be made?I would like to know the answer to that question as well?! Why does Mattel not want to release a figure of him- he is from the widely popular Golden era and thus is well know by fans of that era and would sell as well as any other mid carder. He is a former IC & Tag champ and both his former tag teammates (Honky Tonk Man & Brutus Beefcake) have been released not to mention Tito Santana, the guy whom he defeated for the IC title. Also, WWE has released some Greg Valentine merch including trading cards, a t-shirt and he has been included in the last 2 editions of the video game (2K17 & 2K18)- so why no figure??

It's a win for collectors who only want one or the other, or can afford all of both - but for the majority of people buying $20 wrestling dolls, it means even more picking and choosing, which would cut into the sales of both lines. And then more complaints when the weaker selling one - which would be the Legends one like always - gets dropped.

He's a plain looking boring figure that most kids wouldn't want. Just like Tito or JYD. The Golden Age figs have warmed more than any other era recently. There's no way Valentine would sell well. Which sucks because I would buy one. I'm an 80s guy, but I'm realistic in the wants of the masses who aren't me.

I saw a kid pick up an Ultimate Warrior one time(he actually knew who he was too) and wanted it because I guess it popped out at him alone with knowing who it is.

But we know flashbacks sell well, and I'm of the mindset that if they're on their own in a small line, and especially if they're in their own unique packaging it'll be a good line. There's a good list of names they can use to sell the line. I don't see why it wouldn't be worth a shot. They have tried lines that have eventually failed so I don't really see how it'd be that much of a detriment for them to give legends another shot. I would imagine they've attracted a lot more collectors to the line since the original legends line bit the dust. I just think if they can make zombie figures and essentially re-release a bunch of basics that don't look much different at all to previous releases then they can try a two figure wave every quarter and let guys like Taker, Sting, HBK, Warrior and Macho carry the line.
