Heartbreaking, can't even fathom the reasoning to do something like this. Condolences to all

Is there any gun laws coming to a vote soon?

Is there any gun laws coming to a vote soon? Don't turn this into one of those. It's a completely valid question. As long as we keep everyone affected by this horrific catastrophe in our thoughts and prayers, this thread should not turn into a political debate.

Encourage everyone to send their thoughts and prayers to the victims and their loved ones. Completely surreal.

400 injured sure is an impressive number. Has to be the most since 9/11? Had to have been one hell of a gunman. But, maybe aiming down at 60,000 people makes it hard to miss. It's gotten to the point where I'm not even surprised at these shootings, bombings and other terrorist attacks. I've just become numb to them. It's like "Oh, 50 dead? Yeah, happens. Anyway, what's on TV?" It shouldn't be that way. This shouldn't be the norm.

The choice of weapon the shooter used has already been banned. So, gun control arguments are essentially moot in regards to this incident.
Let's instead focus on the awful human being the shooter is, and the devastation the victim's families are feeling.

If only everyone in the crowd had guns too then nobody would have gotten hurt, right? Alex Jones already calling this a false flag so he can shill his products. Fox News already using first responders as a way to bash anthem protests even though they topics are completely unrelated. Are thoughts and prayers still all we are going to do about events like this, or will we finally take action?

Let's instead focus on the awful human being the shooter is, and the devastation the victim's families are feeling. Law enforcement believes he bought the guns legally and then altered them. Gun laws are different in every state. Often times you can just drive one state over to buy something that is illegal in the other. Gun control is absolutely not moot in regards to this or any incident. He can be an awful person, and we can feel sorry for the vitcims and their family, AND we can want to be proactive in preventing this type of thing in the future.

I haven't seen anything about that, only that his guns were illegal. Will have to look into it.

So things like being crushed or falling over and being walked on. Then someone on TV pretty much confirmed my train of thought. Still gonna be a lot of gunshot wounds though. I generally felt the same way as you when it was an incident involving maybe a couple of deaths. It's still a damn shame that it happens, but as you say it's just part of the American fabric. I haven't so easily glossed over this one though. This is a huge death and injury toll. This one can't be so easily ignored and I really do hope it's time something was done. The biggest question I have is how did the guy manage to get over ten guns into one of the most famous hotels in the country? Where's the security there?

Terrible set of events. I hope no forum members or their families were directly affected by this senseless act.

Most hotels don't have any kind of security like that that would check bags for contents. I assume they were packed in bags and cases. Nobody would really notice.

Now 58 are deceased, 500 wounded.
I just saw some footage of it. I'd post it here, but it was very disturbing & profanity-laden. From the sounds of the gunfire, I'm guessing he was using an assault rifle. One sounded possibly like an AK-47.

From the sounds of the gunfire, I'm guessing he was using an assault rifle. One sounded possibly like an AK-47. It sounded like a silenced rifle to me, which doesn't really make that much sense. Did he hope people would just fall over and no one would be the wiser?
