Hey Everyone,
I don't know if it is just me, but I have noticed over the last few years that prices for wrestler autograph's at signings have continued to increase, especially for active and on screen talent. I would never be one to complain about paying a price to get a good autograph, however I do feel that the quality of autographs has decreased with time as well.
I remember when I was much younger I had the pleasure of meeting some top talent such as Bret Hart, Bob Backlund, Sunny, Undertaker and Hulk Hogan. All of these listed stars, and many more have very distinct and appealing to look at signatures.
Some of the more recent talent over the years such as Seth Rollins, AJ Lee, Roman Reigns, and Dean Ambrose just to name a few have in my opinion very bland signatures. I understand that the amount of fans at each signing has significantly increased over the years, But most of these listed stars charge a good amount of money to get a signature from. I just can't justify spending 80-100 bucks each to get a signature that is just their initials or chicken scratch.
Just my opinion, I'm curious to hear all of your opinions as well!

I'm thinking it's a WWE request to have them short hand their signatures as I bought a signed NXT poster last year where everyone had full signatures to this years poster had initials from everyone.
I'm in agreement where I can't justify spending $80-100 on two letters. While I do t expect a Bruno or undertaker like signature, they can do a scribble like Daniel Bryan does.

I always looked at it as I'm paying for the experience of meeting the person. The autograph is kinda like a receipt to me or something that triggers the memory of the experience.
I don't even really understand why someone would buy a presigned item. They're basically just paying for someone to write their name on something.

In some cases it's laziness. Just wanting to sign things fast. But for others it's a lack of writing ability. I'd be scared to see Roman or Dean's handwriting. Dean's is the worst, but Roman's is just so weird. It's really forced and unnatural.

I agree. Deans autograph is literally an uppercase DA and then he charges you 70 bucks for it lol

I've commented on this before. I think back in the day, the stars had more time to perfect their craft. So they would go into more depth with their characters. Now guys jump on a plane and go. Where as before the wrestlers would spend countless hours in cars driving from town to town.

It's because autographs have increasingly popular over the years. More and more people want them so they sign more and more. Look all across the board. Football autographs are garbage too. They wanna be able to sign as many as they can using as little energy as possible. You ever see that video of John Cena signings 1000s of photos for live events? Imagine how long it would take him to sign his entire name.

Rather than me making a whole new thread, would anyone know how I would authenticate an Autograph? I got it signed when I met AJ Styles two years ago but I have no proof that it's his other than me being there

It just takes too long, so not just WWE Stars, but celebs and pro athletes find ways to shorten their autos so they can sign more and do them faster. Is it cool when you get a nice autograph that has many marker strokes and clear letters...sure. In fact, I just got a REALLY nice Michael Weatherly last night on a Bull 11x14. But I get short hand Rollins and thats fine by me. As long as it is the guy's auto and its the virtually the same everytime....I good with that. I dont buy into "quality of the auto". Someone's autograph is their autograph. One can look nicer...but I dont see that adding to its quality. I have original Cena autos...long before he shortened his graph. Not sure I would say they are of better quality. They just look VERY different. Someone like Steve Austin is interesting. You can get virtually a dozen different variations of his autograph. From full "Stone Cold Steve Austin Whoop Ass! Give Me A Hell Yeah! Austin 3:16" down to just Austin 3:16.

A few years ago at Ringside Fest I got the VIP tickets and had 2 autographs with each person appearing. Sin Cara gave me 2 totally different autographs. On one he just wrote "Sin Cara". On the other he wrote "Sin Cara" then drew a wing and in the wing he wrote "Mexico".

Never understood the appeal for autographs to be honest. Bit of ink with someones name doesnt do it for me.

But if it was anything other than WWE....you got Ric Flair 16X. I dont know what prompts people to sign things differently.

Some people really love them, some don't see the point. I like collecting them, I live the diversity of them and the literal signature they represent (uniqueness). They're also timeless, especially if wrestlers are deceased. Idk, just cool to have a "piece" of your idols wherever your collection may be.

I understand that wrestlers need to "speed up" their autographs. But if that's the case the prices should be lowered as well. To have the quality of the signature decrease and the price increase is ridiculous.

They are contracted for X time through the office and thats that. When time is up...they are up.

These signings are a known part of the athletes jobs in the contracts they agree to and sign. I dint mean to beat a dead horse but if guys like Shawn Michaels , Triple H, and Undertaker can still go out and give the same high quality autograph to thousands of fans in a single signing then so can guys like dean ambrose, Seth rollins, roman reigns and others should be able to do it as well. Especially since the turnout for guys like the legends I mentioned earlier is much higher then some of the active stars today.

I agree on the autographs being bland, I wouldn't pay anything to get Dean Ambrose autograph cuz it's bland just like him.

He does add The Game most of the time, which is nice I guess.
