I'm no Punk fan at all but lets be real the quality of his reign was way higher than Jinders even if he were to hold it for another 2 years.

Jinder breaking the record wouldn't erase Punk's title reign lol. When Brock Lesnar broke the streak, it didn't erase Undertaker vs Jimmy Snuka from the WWE Network. But it did Undertaker vs Bossman Well, at least on the Streak and Hell In A Cell collections. They really like to act like that match didn’t happen.

That match is swept under the rug because Bossman was hung at the end. I understand WWE in todays age, wouldn't rebroadcast or shed light on a public hanging angle.

Get used to seeing more arenas looking like this if it does happen

I think Jinder will likely hold it till Mania. I like the guy, and WWE clearly sees something in the guy and likes him beyond just being their India meal ticket. I'm not against it, I just hate that Shinsuke got ed over like that.

With the way it's going, it's looking as though they are gearing up for Jinder Mahal vs John Cena at Wrestlemania. I thought this was the plan for Summerslam, but the fact it didn't happen and the way we've just had filler PPV matches between Mahal & Nakamura etc, leads me to think they are saving the Cena Match for Wrestlemania now, and gaining even more heat in the hope that it adds to Cena's inevitable record-breaking win.

Punk stated on twitter that he likes Jinder and wouldn't mind this at all. Keep in mind, most people seem to love Jinder IRL, so this is no surprise watch as Punk get more shat on cause of this

No I don't believe so, I believe their plan is to have a dual "babyface" end to Mania with Braun (beating Jinder and the Singhs) and Roman (dominating Brock) having the belts coming out. But after that who knows. I really wouldn't put it past them, they couldn't care less about the fact his reign has been awful since day one so far, what's 300 more to them, less than a year, easy.

Slightly off topic, but...
I still firmly believe they should have had Jinder win the US title instead. Then he could have "Lance Storm'ed" it and re-branded it the India Championship. Or something along those lines. That would have been a more realistic jump from jobber to champion and fans would have an easier time adjusting to it. Plus it would give him a chance to improve without the whole show riding on his back.
And this way he would be booked as a evil foreigner in the US (tired gimmick, I know) but a patriot in his own country. Much like Bret Hart was. THAT would have really helped during this tour of India.

I wouldnt have minded if Jinder Mahal had gotten a push at the US Championship level, but what he has been doing during his world title reign isnt main event quality.

Jinder is an interesting case. While most of us still mostly remember him as a jobber/3MB, WWE has actually made him into a great heel. He’s not a heel that everyone loves to cheer like AJ Styles or Kevin Owens, he’s an actual heel the whole crowd hates.
I listen to the Cheap Heat podcast with Peter Rosenberg and he brought up a good point. Whenever he locks in his finisher and hits it, you can kind of hear a collective groan from the crowd. I know I did when he hit it on Shinsuke last week. Also brought up that when he finally loses, it’ll be that much more satisfying. So I agreed with all of that in a sense. When I try and think who else would succeed in that role and someone that we can actually take seriously in said role, only one name came to mind: Roman Reigns

Can't say it's worked out the best with how his character got directed; with all the repetitive promo's, occasional racism and more of the same from what we've seen from foreign guys, it's not really surprising. His in-ring work is 'Meh' at best and it shows when some of the greatest workers in America can't pull at least a 4 star match out of him. Do I care? No. It's refreshing to see someone totally out of the blue, hold the gold. No buildup, okay, sucked. But when he won the title, it felt fresh and still does. No complaints at all.

This guy doesn't draw a dime as a champion. He may have a body of World Champion but his in ring work is terrible. Hope he loses it at Clash Of Champions in December or Royal Rumble in January.

I like Jinder but wish he had more title defences and clean wins.

There's absolutely no question that they could have achieved the same desired result (elevating Jinder) by putting the US title on him and not sacrificing the entire show for the sake of a failing experiment. This has, without question, been one of the worst years in the history of the WWE Championship. Bad feuds filled with bad matches and a long-term champion that is literally driving business away. Imagine how different things could be for Smackdown right now if Jinder Mahal was instead a long-term US Champion (which I'd argue is still too lofty for his ability, but I digress) and AJ Styles truly was the face of the brand, not just an empty moniker. Time with Styles is limited, and this should have been his year.

It's been a steady decline since AJ lost that title. I was willing to give Jinder a chance. But I'm not having fun anymore.

Meh.
It's not like I've watched his segments/matches since he won it anyway.

They should have just gone from AJ to Cena to Jinder if they really wanted Jinder to have it.
Everything in between Cena and Jinder was pointless.

I get the feeling Punk doesn't really care. Seems like he lost interest in wrestling completely He's supposed to be on some wrestling show so don't think so lol What show?

You do realize a heel isn't supposed to draw a dime, its his opponent. People pay to see him get beat. Nakamura sales were uo higher with the thought of him beating Mahal. So technically he did draw. Mahal is a draw in India. According to reports, he is nearing Khali status there. He will get a Road Warrior pop for sure in India. I can't wait to see it.
