I can’t count how many times I’ve heard this before and nothing happened, but you never know. Hasbro is worth 11 billion while Mattel is worth 5. That would put Marvel and DC under 1 roof. Best to keep an eye on the story but not get too excited yet.

I can't recall what brands Hasbro has rights to. I never really like their stuff. I was less than thrilled when WWE went with Mattel but I love it now! I'm a Barbie fan so having two major toy lines in one company is cool. Though, as a 90s baby, I miss Kenner, Galoob and BanDai. Yeah I know BanDai is still around but their products are less than pleasing.

Oh man, interesting. Maybe I won't have such a tough time finding my Hasbro Retro figures anymore after all....since that might be all that there is lol.

I hope not. I actually enjoy Mattel’s toys, warts and all. And I started as an adult collector with G.I. Joe. What I like about Mattel over Hasbro is their fidelity to reference material. We get WWE, DC and MOTU figures that hold much closer to their reference material than what Hasbro does. I still collect Hasbro, but across their lines, there seems to be more interest in parts reuse or whims than getting it right. Granted, the articulation is generally better and the sculpts are a little grittier, but those aren’t the only things that make a figure enjoyable. I like the Mattel aesthetic, and while joncompany is perfect, Mattel has shaped my adult collecting habits and given me much more pleasure than Hasbro.

Imo It'd be better if Bandai and Mattel fused, because I love MMPR and Dragonball, but I haven't seen good(cheap)mass market toys for like, a decade, back when BoA was making Super Legends chasers and when Irwin made those IF Labs figures. The Fisher-Price MMPR line looks almost cool enough to collect, because they made so many more figs/playsets than BoA makes nowadays. Plus, they could make Elite Kinnikuman vs. WWE figure sets, like Kinnikuman/Joe, Ramen/Roman, or Sunshine/Regal.

The Marvel Legends really arent that bad of figures. I like the live action characters but Im not a big fan of the ones based on comics/cartoons. I dont see the sale being made though.

Wouldnt anti-trust laws stop that from happening? If they wanted it to work, they would find away around antitrust laws. But you also have to consider that companies like Disney wouldn't want the merger to happen. So they would fight it.

I still collect Hasbro, but across their lines, there seems to be more interest in parts reuse or whims than getting it right. I feel like this is totally backwards. The whole reason Marvel Legends is around now is because of the movie figures, and those are almost always unique sculpts. Star Wars Black Series is largely unique sculpts for every figure that doesn't share a uniform. Meanwhile, Mattel has built a huge parts library but rarely uses them to their full potential. I've collected the WWE line since day one and have always had issues with their reuse strategy. I collected DCUC through its entire run and that whole line was reuse. Even MOTUC is built on mostly on the same parts. And when they do something new, like with Multiverse, it's still the same old articulation setups and parts they've used for like ten years and almost always executed terribly. Hasbro is faaaaar from perfect, but they seem to be pretty undeniably the best action figure manufacturer on a large scale today.

Look at Mattel's quarterly results over the last few years. They have been losing money almost every quarter. It would not surprise me at all if they got bought out.

Wouldnt anti-trust laws stop that from happening? It sure would make Hastel the biggest toy company out there by far...and by "by far", I mean not even close. I can't recall what brands Hasbro has rights to. I never really like their stuff. I was less than thrilled when WWE went with Mattel but I love it now! Marvel Star Wars Transformers GI Joe MLP Nerf Beyblade Disney Furby almost every major board game on the market Also, ironically, Hasbro owns both Kenner and Galoob.

Hasbro is faaaaar from perfect, but they seem to be pretty undeniably the best action figure manufacturer on a large scale today. I guess I’m mostly referring to GI Joe there. As for DCUC, et al, there’s a difference between a buck system and reuse. Again, GI Joe is a good example if you look how often the 25th Duke head was repurposed for other figures/characters, but even with Legends, we have a Thor who reuses Sentey’s head and the Mary Jane/Black widow shared head. And it’s the latter that bugs me anyway because what’s the reference on that MJ? It’s like a hodgepodge. Seems Hasbro does a lot of that. And while that may work for some, one of my priorities is faithfulness to the reference.

And while that may work for some, one of my priorities is faithfulness to the reference. Which is one of my big problems with Mattel WWE. There's so much available reference material that tattoos/gear/body parts should always be right but they miss the mark pretty often. These are figures based on real people at real events. On the Hasbro side, they're based on comics/cartoons/video games, where the looks can differ from artist to artist and sometimes panel to panel. The Black Widow/Mary Jane head reuse is a real headscratcher though since the upcoming BW with bike comes with two new heads.
