I remember back to the days of Elite 17, 18, and 19, where you had to be sitting at your computer, credit card in hand, ready to purchase whatever you were looking for.
That eventually stopped, and pre-orders were almost never nessesary. But as of Elite 54, Elite 55, and ESPECIALLY Elite 56, its seeming necessary again. Elite 56 is on "pre-order 3" after being up for pre-order for just over a week.
What's up with this? Are less figures being produced or are more people buying these figures?

Maybe it has something to do with Christmas shopping. Some solid figures being released with the first pre-orders due to release just before Christmas.

Preorders 1 and 2 on E56 are both saying they should ship before Christmas, so I'd imagine holiday shopping has some impact. RSC could also have lowered their preorder quantities. These are still mass market retail figures, so I don't imagine most being hard to get at some point.

The last figure I preordered was Asuka. I hadn't noticed the preorder situation until the other night when I thought about buying Elite Charlotte. She's on "preorder-3" for early December. Maybe Mattel isn't sending enough to RSC in the first or second shipments because I was able to buy her somewhere else right now for $30 shipped, which would've been the same price + shipping from RSC. Actually, most of my purchases this year have been below retail price.

Other than RSC exclusives the last figure I preordered was the DM Jericho and the new Neville. Besides those two there really hasn’t been any figure I wanted enough that I felt I had to preorder it.

I feel like I always find what I need so overpaying on a pre order is not necessary

Thankfully I got my Ken Shamrock via pre-order because I’m yet to see Elite 52 in stores. I said I’d get between 7-8 Shamrock figures and I will once I actually see them. My area seems to be taking a stance against ordering elite figures in every store.

I'm just waiting for the sales on black Friday and cyber Monday and ordering anything under 8$. Then I'll wait.a year and pick new stuff up from now, then.and save.
Some of these figures on ringside cost the price of a mint Hasbrouck carded on ebay. Can't justify it

Lol those were the days. I remember sitting at my computer all day for elite 19 to come up. Also elite 16 Diesel/Kevin Nash and CM Punk about broke the internet lol. I feel like due to the how big the bullet club have gotten everyone wants the members thats why Luke and Karl are selling so well. Plus they look really good gotta give mattel props on them 2 for sure. They nailed them. Theres been some other on there like elite 47 AJ and DM Shinsuke. Everyone wants those new japan guys for sure. I remember I ordered Shinsuke on here for 24.99 and not even a couple days later he was 40.

I’d bet $ ringside simply order less of each set because so many sets were coming out at the same time. They didn’t want to mass order one set and have it sit as competitors gobbled up the next two sets. Likely they wanted a variety available for Christmas

Preorder is definitely necessary...
...if you just have to pay 5 or 6 bucks a figure over retail just to have it "first". Or if you are...uhhh...not real smart like...and dont have prime.
I havent paid a penny over retail for any figure since e46 balor, and yet ive got everything ive wanted.
I pick up 10 dollar elites and 5 dollar basics all the time.
But yeah, that $28 charlotte is way better than the one ill get for $14 in 2 months. Preorder away.

Never necessary Unless it's for a gift and needed by a certain date

Judging from Amazon, I’d say the Elite Line is on a decline in popularity and Ringside is probably just ordering fewer cases so they don’t get stuck with product they’re paying to expedite from China. Ringside is a specialty retailer. So they’re not indicative of the mass demand. There hasn’t been any main Line figure I haven’t been able to get off Amazon in the last 2 years, usually for less than MSRP. WWE stock is up and it’s partially is due to merchandising. If the increase in different exclusives and new lines, I’d say the elite line and wwe figure line in general is doing great. Things sell out quick this time of year. Pre-ordering is never necessary, unless you’re impatient

People needs them for gifts so they do this instead of paying 100+ for a AJ basic on the Bay like last year.

Pre-orders are never necessary, they're just safety and a guarantee that you'll get a figure, but 9/10 times you will pay a markup to own that figure early. If you wait a month you can get that figure at or slightly below retail cost.
When Asuka went up for pre-order, she was $29.99 (correct me if I'm wrong), but that's just pre-order, $10 above retail to own the figure early, now you can get her from Ringside for $13.99.
The only time you should pre-order is if its a definitely limited supply or limited edition, or you will get a bonus/benefit for pre-ordering.

I’m not nervous. I let people over pay. Wait a few months then get them for retail or less. The Club and Gallagher are must buys, but they have a smaller demographic. Don’t worry my friend

Spot on, only if you can’t wait or you’re certain it’s gonna be a limited release I’ve only preordered 3 figs in my day E47 AJ DM Shinsuke And now EG Angle. Definitely don’t regret Shinsuke.
