If she wants to go, I'd let her. Having her imagine what it's like in there might actually be worse than reality.

In 8th grade, they took us to a jail for a scared straight program. Don't deny her seeing her Mother, that's her choice to make if she does or doesn't want to. Who took you? The school? That's pretty shocking Tons of schools do that...

Tough one I wouldn’t want to keep my daughter from her mom for so long but I also do not want my kids to know what it looks like at a prison especially a minimum security one. I myself have never been inside a prison and the thought of being an inmate in one has scared me my whole life just imagining. Tv does a lot to help show you you don’t want to go to jail and I don’t mind the whole scared straight concept because it’s usually pretty shocking. I wouldn’t ever want my kids to start to think “oh it’s not so bad”. Or not to be ashamed of themselves because one of their parents had done time.

I would. For you're wifes sanity, and for the strange way you daughter has decided to deal with it. We took a feild trip tocou ty jail in high school, of course you would only be taken to visitation, but we got to visit blocks and inmates. Its a place no one should want to be. I also visited a former friend, I will say, don't touch anything but the phone when you talk and keep your mouth away fron the receiver. Also bring a tub of hand sanitizer with you for when you leave because you will feel like Godzillas suppository when you leave.

She won't get shanked just because she sets foot in a prison. Just make it clear that her mom is there for good reason. Sometimes that is a useful reminder to get the serious nature of it all through their skulls.

she is in 9th grade. Main concern is not her mom it is the jail environment and other inmates and guards In 8th grade, they took us to a jail for a scared straight program. Don't deny her seeing her Mother, that's her choice to make if she does or doesn't want to. When the new justice center here opened up they let students from the local high schools spend the night in it (before they moved the inmates obviously) Ironically enough, a small percentage of those students are actual residents there now.

Why not? it's her mother and they both want to see each other and it might help make the time go faster for both. In 8th grade, they took us to a jail for a scared straight program. Don't deny her seeing her Mother, that's her choice to make if she does or doesn't want to. When the new justice center here opened up they let students from the local high schools spend the night in it (before they moved the inmates obviously) Ironically enough, a small percentage of those students are actual residents there now.So some liked the sleepover and just want that free room and board now.

What's the main benefit in seeing her mom in jail over phone calls?

What's the main benefit in seeing her mom in jail over phone calls? Face to Face communication.

The damaged caused by not seeing her far out weighs any risk. Speaking from experience on this one. You should encourage communication and the relationship. Honesty is the best policy, u need to empower your daughter and wife to have a strong relationship built on trust. That can only happen if all the cards are on the table, including seeing her Mum in jail.
