I've learned over the last year to not be surprised by anything stupid that America does, but I'm still disappointed every time.

This is what happens when you elect someone who lies and says they will protect the little people - but turns around and tries to help the rich. When will they ever learn?

I don’t know what net neutrality actually is, but Republicans being against it means it benefits more than just them, so in their minds it needed to be repealed.
I don’t think much is actually going to change, if anything.

I don’t think much is actually going to change, if anything. The reason the obama administration put the original regulations on it, was because ISPs were gearing up to structure the internet and limit our access. This is a large scale issue, as everything we do in life is impacted by the internet anymore. It’s going impact students, businesses and individuals. It also give these ISPs authority to dictate what we can see and what we can’t.

I've been mulling over a question that's been in my mind since I first heard this story, but it hasn't been brought up in any television reports I've seen:
Many have been saying that a repeal of Net Neutrality opens the door for ISPs to forge internet pathways to fulfill self-interests, namely helping their own profits. But what is stopping them from doing so for other reasons? Say (hypothetically) the owner of an ISP has certain social or political leanings and beliefs and tailors a plan to create the internet in that image. Or a government with an authoritarian ideology offers massive incentives to companies to censor any sites that that government body feels to be detrimental to their agenda. Are there ways to prevent these actions, besides the basic freedom of speech argument that, I fear, will soon be left open to interpretation, augmented, circumvented, or otherwise dismissed?

This is exactly why people are worried

Coincidence that everyone and their uncle is going to have a streaming service and now the new "cable" companies have free reign to "package" them......hmmm, Ted, something is afoot at the Circle K.

Sigh. We're all gonna be paying cable prices for internet soon enough.
"Want the *UNLIMITED internet package? That'll be $125 please! Want a speed boost?! That'll be an extra $25! And the ability to stream Netflix and Hulu in HD? Another $15!"
(*speeds may be slowed to 1mb/s after 100gb of internet usage)

I wonder how long it will take for the moron contingency to blame this on Obama? Probably about as long as it took people to fall into a hysteria about $500 internet packages being needed to view WF in the future. That damn Drumpf out to ruin the world!!!!!

Probably about as long as it took people to fall into a hysteria about $500 internet packages being needed to view WF in the future. That damn Drumpf out to ruin the world!!!!! Why am I not surprised that you aren't smart enough to understand why this is a big deal? It's going how these fundamental beliefs among you republicans always seem to disappear when your side is in power. On a seemingly unrelated note, when is the last time you hard the phrase "decided ceiling"? It certainly wasn't when there GOP was passing the tax reform that's going to add trillions to our defect. Why am I not surprised you started out by insulting me? Not even going to bother reading the rest of your reply but good job trying to insult me on here for the 1,000th time because you disagree with me poltically.
