I thing you have misread the article, nothing about the article is good news for toys"R"us. This is what you call the beginning off the end

Remind me to never do business with anyone who sees this as good news. They have papered over the cracks as far as the pensions issue goes...this does nothing to alter their long term viability.
Smyths are thriving and expanding all over the place while this lot escape administration by the skin of their teeth and still plan to close stores???

I cannot believe that they've lasted as long as they have. I feel that they've been having problems ever since the mid-to-late 2000s (old stock being a big one). £5 says that my local Toys R Us is going to be one of those 26 stores.

Yet charge £33 for Kurt angle, £27 for WM Elites, £29 for WM Battlepqcks and have put the retros up to £11. **** Smyths.

When Toys R Us hit in the 1980s and 1990s, they came in and were cheap, knocking out all the independent toy stores. Following that, they put their prices up. I remember when Smyths came in around 2007/2008 (I think my local was one of the first U.K. ones), they were much cheaper and had a better selection than Toys R Us. I’m worried, if Toys R Us goes completely, Smyths will just keep increasing their prices. Though they are now competing with online, but manfuctuering and importanting costs are rising.

I doubt it otherwise Macho Man wouldn’t have been £28? Mattel want to sell these things surely? I think Smyths are just getting greedy in the wake of a lack of brick & mortar competition (other than TRU for the network spotlight stuff). I’m probably wrong though but Smyths have put the price of every line up. It’s why I’ve sold everything and stopped completely, can’t afford it at all anymore, when the retros went above £9.99 that was the final straw for me.

Don't forget the exhange rate plummeted after the EU vote too. That is another reason for creeping costs.

To be fair, TRU took a little time to react to the competition and creeping pressures. Having big warehouse type stores on the outskirts of towns and cities wasn't always going to be an ideal trading situation. They needed to put themselves in the heart of shopping centres and towns a bit quicker.

No problem for me as I drive but obviously a nightmare for people using public transport

You told us all to vote leave. All your fault! HAHA I stand by it! Don't worry, America is fooked (Not because of trump, because of the FED's 8 year kamikaze run), they will kill their own currency back to reasonable levels.

Having big warehouse type stores on the outskirts of towns and cities wasn't always going to be an ideal trading situation. They needed to put themselves in the heart of shopping centres and towns a bit quicker. That's because those warehouses cost a pittance compared to a central store. You don't see B&M, or Pets at home in a high street either. TRU have not reacted quick enough to the web. Their website is consistently 3 years behind the trend. They never have anything in stock. They don't list everything. And most importantly, they don't reduce prices in line with their competition. In the age of the modern consumer, everyone is becoming a bit of a Maven. Which is a great thing for us, because we always know where to find the biggest discounts and the latest stock. I predict these other pop up companies will suffer too. They do not shift the type of volume to compete with places that regularly discount by 40-50%.

ya I read that concept to not buying it though smyths are on the outskirts... tru opened a shop in liverpool one don't know if you know it but it's the centre of town prime spot location all the big hitters are there to plus argos another joke lasted about a year that web site sums them up.
