Sorry if this has been beat to death but just curious, has anyone else just not been able to get over the new arms on the basics? I will only buy elites now due the change, it certainly has helped the wallet but kinda a disappointment...

As someone who got back in to collecting recently I've never seen the appeal of them. Limited articulation and body molds for loose collectors, ugly packaging and display for MOC collectors. To me they are no more than part fodder for custom makers and cheap toys for kids.

I've only recently got back into collecting after a 7-year hiatus. I have no desire for basics anymore, besides any AJ or Jeff Hardy. Elites may cost more, but the packaging is much nicer for an MOC collector.

No. I like basics. For me they're good for picking up wrestlers I wouldn't normally pay $20 for. For kids who are gonna play with these figures and beat them to death they're also a good choice.

Even as a kid I didn't want those. Plus look at that recent basic Orton with painted on shirt, people would have lampooned Jakks for something like that.

They don't bother me. If it's an attire I like that won't be released as an Elite, I buy it. When I started collecting the limited articulation bothered me (and still does a little), but after a while I realized that there was no real reason for it. I don't pose or play with figures. Heck, I barely display most of my collection. I don't have a lot of basics, but I'm perfectly happy with the ones I do have. I'm actually like the new arms now that I got to see them in person.

If by "recently" you mean "I've bought almost no basics after Year One of the Mattel line once I realized they pale in comparisons to Elites," sure.

At the start of my collection I was buying way too many basics. I rushed and got 'first in the line' basics of alot of people instead of waiting. Now though, I'm 99% finished with Basics. I would buy basics of expensive Flashbacks I missed (Bob Orton for example) Other than that, I'm 100% out and it feels great - less $$$!

The only basics i'll buy now are Hardyz, old Punks (and new IF he ever returns), Luke Harper and Edge if they're both good.
Edit: Forgot about Kassius Ohno, would probably buy a basic of him but would prefer an Elite.

At first, I was only collecting Elites MOC to get signed. Then I started to see how everyone was displaying their loose figures on here, so I started buying almost all Basics and Battle Packs. It became too much money to spend, and I don't ever imagine having the space to display them, so I started selling off all my Basics and Battle Packs and still only collect Elites and DM to keep MOC to get signed.

My loose collection is about half Basics and half Elites. I buy what I like. Not a fan of the new Basic arms, but if a figure looks good, I'll still get it.

I always bought the women as they're all glorified basics....then they completely killed them by taking away articulation so now I dont bother.

Pretty much. There were a few that were really well done and we didn't get elites of. Plus I used to buy them for parts,(heads, arms, small/medium knee pads) but I'm doing much less fixing up these days and with the articulation changes they are much less useful.

I did. I would’ve picked up Natalya and maybe GMs Bryan and Foley, but the fixed ankles are a bridge too far for me.
