I, and other smart dudes on here, could have feasibly written that BBC article 4 years ago.
If I worked in retail instead of banking, I could have turned Toys R us around without a shadow of a doubt. When the website was rebuilt 5 years ago, they must have paid a 14 year old kid they found online, 8 bucks an hour to build and design it.

In the right hands TRU could have thrived, but like many other retail stores going out of business these days they failed to move with the times and are paying the ultimate price

Popped in mine tonight, to see what was left. Just dolls, Paige zombies, one zombie Wyatt, NS Bayley, 'Taker and Reigns - the latter still at full price, four or five of WM Beefcake, a couple of Steph and Mick BP's, a solitary Corey Graves, and of course, the eternally peg-warming, Harlem Heat, and Magnum TA. Was hoping to finally grab a NS Vince, but typically, when I actually want one, it's gone. Closing down posters, literally, all over the shop, shelves stripped... a sad sight, tbh.

It’s needed the bolt gun to the head for years. Awful place mostly in awful locations filled with mostly terrible staff. Over priced and other than a few very rare instances was always 6-9 months out of date with the lines.
First things I ever remember getting from them were some beetlejuice movie figs plus his car and the Alien Queen toy.
Some great memories growing up and feel sorry for the few good staff members but I honestly won’t miss it.

I've got a spare Vince for you mate if you want it.

How often did people go there apart from birthdays or xmas? All my original hasbros cone from Argos because they were £1 which when your talking less than £4 a figure and your a kid that's a big difference

Toys R Us in Livingston was one of the branches on the iriginal list of stores to close and as it got nearer to closing down, they gave out vouchers for each sale. These vouchers were for £10 off any ourchase over £20. Not bad, as I got Jack Gallacher from another store using that. Got a Freddo for 16p or something to take it over the £19.99 mark 😆 Also, the prices at Livingston got reduced even further: Action figures went to 40% off. They only had a Charlotte doll and a few NS Vince’s.
Toys R Us at Fort Kinnaird in Edinburgh suddenly closed down on 26th Feb with just a weeks notice given. That was just small store that was always stocked with the usual older figures stuck at full price: Harlem Heat, Magnum TA, The Nasty Boys, IRS and NS Helmsley. They got Elite 56 in, but they went before I could grab Gallows and Anderson and they had plenty of the BP series with GM Foley. Never anything worth buying towards the end, so I don’t know if they gave away those vouchers.
Edinburgh Craigleith store had a few fashion dolls and action figure dolls as well as that GM Foley series of battle packs and a few sets of blue Hart Foundation BPs. There was a NS basic Big Cass and a Corey Graves and the dregs of Elite 56 in a couple of AJ’s. What made me laugh was when I walked in and the PA was playing their advert that was suggesting that we sign up to their Gold Card! Those cards were useless anyway.

Does anyone know if TRU are honouring the vouchers given out by the first ones to close down?
I have 3 vouchers from Bradford when I bought from their closing down sale that are £10 off when you spend £20, but they are only valid at Leeds TRU in March
As this store is now closing too are they accepting these vouchers?

I don’t know, but are you sure they are just for Leeds? Mine from Livingston said that the nearest store was the Edinburgh Craigleith branch, but what if I was from Glasgow in the opposite direction? I didn’t say I had to spend it in there (although, I did, but only because it’s close to my house).

The email I have says that gift cards would be honoured until 18th March but doesn't mention vouchers specifically but I would have thought so?

The latest email stated reductions UP TO 25% so this doesn't mean for all so basically still the same as last week.
The email also said all vouchers, gift cards, exchanges, layaways etc have to be used/completed by 11th march (tomorrow)
Which has me thinking they may actually close the doors tomorrow?

Yep, I saw the 11th bandied about elsewhere as well. I will miss my TRU visits but it is the 4-5 thousand odd job losses that are the worst part, and it will impact more than those directly employed by TRU. In these days of zero hour contracts, and my own place of work Asda attempting to change existing contracted hours, these are tough times to find employment with enough guaranteed hours.

Asda used to be a good old Leeds company until Walmart took them. All I’ve heard since then is that they are not good to work for. Do you get discounts on figures? Does anyone know if TRU all closed then? I’ve not been near mine since last week.

Went into my TRU yesterday for what I reckoned will be my last visit there. Just had a slow walk around looking at the Star Wars and WWE sections. Wanted to buy something but there were no good WWE figures there so I picked up a Star Wars mystery mini bobble head since it was 25% off. It ended up not being one that I really wanted so in it's last act, TRU disappoints me again. Pretty much the theme of my visits there over the years as they never really had what I hoped they would.

I find them fine to work for, but other people's mileage may vary.

Still sad that TRU is going down, but as plenty have said the seeds of their downfall were sewn long ago.
