WWE running a show at the 100,000-seat MCG in Melbourne, Australia, that has been reported about as a possibility for weeks, was reported on as a done deal in today's Melbourne Herald-Sun.
The story didn't list a date, although the planned date is early October, and stated that it would be a pay-per-view and would be expected to draw 100,000 fans. The deal has been negotiated between Visit Victoria, the local tourism board, which would be bringing a major show in as a way to bring tourists to the city.
The story stated that the official announcement of the show would be at WrestleMania on April 8th.
The WWE once drew 55,000 to the smaller Etihad Stadium in 2002 for a three-way main event of The Rock vs. Triple H vs. Brock Lesnar, although locals note that Hulk Hogan's Australia debut was the big draw. Hogan quit WWE just prior to the show.
Etihad Stadium also hosted the 2015 Ronda Rousey vs. Holly Holm fight that drew 56,214 fans. In local media, Rousey has been reported as the signature star to possibly headline the show.

Good news for the fans down under. The WWE should pull out all the stops for a crowd that size. It's on the scale of a WM.
Meanwhile, all the Europeans continue to wait for a big show at some place like Wembley.

How on earth do they get this ahead of the UK getting a PPV at Wembley?!

That’s incredible. If flights weren’t $2000 and take 24hrs I’d go.

The Undertaker should be getting a call soon asking him to fly to Australia and job to Roman Reigns...

Is this even remotely realistic as something they can fill?

Is this even remotely realistic as something they can fill? There are a ton of international fans, most Wrestlemanias are filled up with them instead of locals. I would bet that if they could fill a Mania, they could probably fill Australia. They would probably need to promote someone big to be there though.

When they don't sell enough tickets they'll just say a terrorist attack was bound to happen and maybe move in a smaller venue;)

They might have to call it Wrestlemania 34.5 or something like that and promote it as such. The Wrestlemania name can draw 70,000 fans and the card itself will draw the rest.

Thats only a four hour flight for me. I'll definitely try and make it there.

Huh. That’s a 23 hour flight. I’ll probably have to pass even though that’d be really cool to go to.

That's great for fans in Australia. I'm sure WWE will put on all their bells and whistles for that.

Interesting. I heard Australia has a huge decline of men, so this may give me an excuse to go and then check out some of the ladies there lol

That’s pretty cool if it’s true. It’ll probably just be some network exclusive show or something.

How on earth do they get this ahead of the UK getting a PPV at Wembley?! Yeah, this is a load of crap. If they're doing a PPV outside of north America, it should be in London.

I wouldn’t be surprised if it was a network exclusive, but that doesn’t mean they wouldn’t treat it as a big deal. Kinda like how they did the network exclusive Elimination Chamber show. It wouldn’t really matter either way.
Anyway, I think it’d be great if they did this show. Hopefully it was sell really really well even if not 100,00.
