It is not necessary to believe in God to be a good person. In a way, the traditional notion of God is outdated. One can be spiritual but not religious. Some of the best people in history did not believe in God, while some of the worst deeds were done in his name.
Jeff Jarrett also played him to pull pranks on Dink.
And Men on a Mission & the Bushwhackers did at the 1994 Survivor Series.

Matt Borne was a psychotic genius as Doink. Everyone else failed in comparison.
So true, this was a case, where you couldn't beat the original. And then the twist on it, when he went to ECW, and became Borne Again, was great. I don't think Matt Borne gets the amount of credit he deserves in the business.

I feel the same. Always loved his work... under-appreciated for sure.
He did and a drugged up HBK backstage kept bitching to Jericho that they shouldn't have made him Doink. I think Vinnie Mac fired him that night.
Haha, yeah Jericho confirms that in his book. He was backstage all painted up like Doink for that segment when HBK stumbled over. Shawn thought he was taking over the Doink gimmick. Jericho had to repeatedly keep telling him that it was just a one-time thing, but Shawn was so loaded on whatever that he couldn't understand. After all the back and forth, Shawn walks away and says something like "They never should have made you Doink." 😂
Very glad HBK cleaned up and salvaged his life, but I'll always think that story is hilarious.
Back to the topic, it was a mistake to turn Doink face at the end of summer 1993. That character worked well and got over because of how ridiculous Matt played up the evil, crazy clown character.
