Completely shocked by this. Bruno was way before my time, but he was a trail blazer and I’ve never heard anyone say anything bad about him.
RIP

despite bruno being from well before my time, I have seen plenty of his work as I truly love old school wrestling. and Bruno is one of my absolute favourites.
much like Bret Hart, he aspired to be a true hero to people worldwide and was just a morally sound individual. he wanted what is best for people and for the wrestling business. no doubt about it that Bruno is one of my absolute favourites of the wrestling business.

Damn! Ive watched all the old school episodes on the network and working my way through all star wrestling from back in the day and Im actually really into the old stuff, so im really sad to read this. Im shocked as well because even though he was in his 80s he was in fantastic shape, does anyone know how he died? R.I.P Bruno, what an impact he made in the wrestling. Seriously go back and watch the old school stuff from the 70s and listen to the pop he gets when he comes out, they loved him back then.

One thing I don't think a lot of people really understand too, there's always the talk of, without Hulk Hogan, WWE wouldn't be what it is today, and yeah, to a level that's true. But without the bedrock that was Bruno's era in the WWWF, there would have been nowhere for Vince to lay the foundation of the Hogan era on.

I recognized him first from when I Juuuust started watching in '85 and he was an announcer and only wrestled on special occasions (like Wrestlemania 2) later on is when I learned just what he had meant to WWF and the history of the company. On the network (I think it's on the network) there's a Piper's Pit from an MSG show where Roddy actually calls him a "Wop" and gets the absolute slapped out of him. Literally off the stool and halfway across the ring (this led to a match). It was so great and the drama was awesome. Hard to believe both are gone now. RIP to Bruno and thoughts out to David and the rest of the Sammartino clan in this trying time.

My uncle (who got me into watching wrestling) didn't speak much English. When he'd say "Vanna vatch Bruno?" I knew he meant "wrestling".
I'm kind of hoping they run into each other wherever they are now.

As others have already said, I got into wrestling far too long after the Bruno days, but have always had tremendous respect for everything he did for the business. This is a death that's just as big in the wrestling community, or even bigger, as Dusty, Piper, Warrior, Savage, etc. I'm glad he did bury the hatchet with Vince before he died, though, and was finally given the recognition he deserved for all these years. RIP Bruno.

I was wondering, did he ever make up with David? That would be awful if he never reconciled with his own son, before he passed.

Met him a million times being from here. He shared residence between Pittsburgh and his old family home in Italy and always came here for parades and stuff. One of the most gentle people I've ever met despite his commanding presence and size. Met him and knew who he was long before 2004 when I started watching wrestling and found out just how huge of a deal he was to the creation of modern wrestling as we know it. He and Killer modernized studio wrestling, which paved the way for Flair in the south and Hogan and Andre in the north, which paved the way for what we enjoy almost every day of the week now if you watch RAW, SD, NXT, Lucha Underground, Impact, and the mega shows for WWE and Japan.
I'm just glad he made peace with Vince before this and was able to be enshrined. Even if you don't like the WWE HoF, if you like pro wrestling he's one of the largest reasons why it became so popularized.
Damn shame. He lived a long life though.

It was before my time as well for his prime and first title reign. but I did see see his second in the 70’s (when I first started watching wrestling) and after being a commentator for a few years I did see him wrestle again after a couple times in the mid 80’s ...On a Piper’s Pit at MSG. Then in a couple of tag matches vs Piper and with his son David.
He was truly a Legend. Condolences to his family.

a true legend in this sport. It's a definitely loss and another bit of wrestling history gone. I guess that's just life, in another 50-60 years you young guys would be talking about Seth Rollins and Finn Balor like that too

Very sad news. Even if I find that era of wrestling difficult to watch, Bruno's matches were always far easier to watch than anyone else's. It's very clear even from the footage, let alone the adoration from his peers and bosses in interviews, that the crowds absolutely adored him. Quite honestly, I particularly really enjoyed the sections containing Bruno on the 50 Years of WWE Blu-Ray set from 2013.

The next time wwe goes to Madison Square Garden, they should make it a Bruno tribute night. They are going back there this July. If they do that, I will go(I wasn't planning otherwise despite it being Ronda's MSG debut). He headlined that building so many times.
