I think that WHSmith is going to bite the bullet sooner or later. Their travel shops obviously do well since a lot of them cater to a captive (and exhausted) audience, but it's only a matter of time until their high street stores disappear. Dirty, quiet, lack of staff, dead atmosphere. They mostly sell books and magazines with stationary (at least the one by me does). Nothing you can't really order online or get from the supermarket. Their food and drink is very overpriced too. Eyesore now. How they've managed to last so long is anyone's guess, probably using travel money to stay afloat. (I actually think a WHSmith closure would result in MORE jobs, considering how empty the stores are and their size)
It doesn't look bright for Debenhams and House of Fraser either hearing the reports, sadly I think the concept of department stores is a bit lost on everyone now. That one is a shame, considering they hire quite a lot of people.

Actually, I think Woolworths could make a comeback. Stores like Home Bargains, B&M Bargains, TK Maxx, Poundland, Poundworld, Aldi, Lidl, Wilkinsons weren't really that popular ten years ago, now that kind of format seems to be doing quite well.

Think I read a while back Marks & Spencer weren’t doing too well. I think the clothing department is their downfall, way to pricey, their food is immense though.

Poundland near me is going. I think the rise in minimum wages has hit them hard. The whole pound shop is flawed anyway. If they can’t really raise their prices beyond a pound but their costs keep rising then they will eventually start making a loss.
I know they don’t price everything at one pound, they can raise prices. But that sort of defeats the point about it being a pound shop lol.
Anyway, yeah, the one near me is finished.

Poundland near me is going. Poundworld is up for sale too. I doubt Poundland will buy them, since their stores are usually neighbouring each other.
