Isn’t there a customs section of this message board?

Ruby what do you think of the custom 2up figures? I think it'll be very hard to distinguish what's real and what's not... Isn’t there a customs section of this message board? Yes there is, but the dangerous part here is: these customs look like the real deal... Customizers used to create figures that didn't exist; say a Hasbro Hercules or nWo Hogan. Now they create custom 2UPs of existing 2UPs, basically that's counterfeiting...

As long as something is clearly labelled as a custom, it's an interesting novelty. The issue for me are the custom accessories. It seems like they're being mixed in with people's collections a lot more often and sometimes people don't even realize they have a non-genuine piece. This happens a lot with Bossman's night stick. Several months ago I purchased a loose set of all 3 Demolition for $50 not realizing that the masks were customs It's still an ok deal, but I wasn't thrilled when I saw the tiny air bubbles in the masks.

I sort of had the same thought about making customs of 2UPs, prototypes, mailaways, limited-run variants, etc. Some customizers are so skilled that it's somewhat hard to tell the difference in some cases.
Eventually, I think some of these are going to end up on eBay or will be sold without the disclaimer of it being a custom, probably to someone without the specific knowledge base of most of us on here.

To play devils advocate for someone who doesn’t wanna spend crazy money for a one off piece I’d buy some of these.

They look glorious, as long as they aren't passed off as genuine (hopefully signed by customizer with year), hopefully there won't be a problem. Maybe they can make them a little bigger/smaller to distinguish further, if necessary.

I have to agree with you Ruby it is a dangerous situation and counterfeiting. It would be interesting to see if a custom 2up would pass as legit. It does take the fun out of collecting for me. If you look back at R&B Greg discussion that’s why I’m trying to get at. Why 5 all of a sudden? And yes the accessories customs are good but spoiling the fun.

didn't some guy post a few weeks ago saying that this could happen because someone's private collection of molds got sold or something like that? i think the thread got locked shortly after that
edit: the comment is on the last page of the stickied hasbro thread

Also these customs, while they are great pieces of art, they aren't perfect as you will notice imperfections which real 2-UPs don't have, such as many air bubbles.

Wow, that's pretty cool. If he can do this, can he make a regular sized R&B Greg Valentine just for me and my collection???

I thought everyone knew about this. I saw it when the Hasbro book fundraising thing came about, I noticed all the 'new' 2ups in sample photos. After a minute of research I found they're being sold on ebay and privately.
Overall that's amazing but it does kinda kill some of the significance of the real deals.

based off some of the photos, i only scrolled through a few. this has got to be illegal and infringing on copyrights. a 1 off custom is one thing but they have a whole production line going! that pic with all the takers, machos and shawns is proof enough he has enough supply and machinery to produce in bulk.

Wow, that's pretty cool. If he can do this, can he make a regular sized R&B Greg Valentine just for me and my collection??? This is what I thought of! They look amazing, if only he could do regular sized guys that are as close to the prototypes as possible. Valentine, HBK, Brutus etc. Maybe even Hart Foundation Anvil, Tugboat and others that didn't get past sketch stage. Give us what Hasbro never did, and Mattel doesn't seem to want to do anytime soon either.

His 2UPs are regular figures recasted and expanded, hence why his 2UPS have copyright info and real 2UPs don't.

Just a matter of the paint work turning out perfect. The others could be sculpted though I would think. I know at least a couple of great customizers had done nice clay work to to Valentine.

Still, these counterfeits will get to the aftermarket: bad idea...
