I have no idea what you're talking about. Is this like a Pixel Dan type of thing where they send figures to certain people early so they can show them off on social media? If so, it's to get word out about their product. Companies have been doing this for years. Do you think every review on Amazon is from some Heywood who bought the item and gave it a glowing five-star? Nope. Are you saying some of these people who Mattel have sent these figure to early are then turning around and selling them? Well, if Mattel doesn't obligate them to retain the product for a certain period of time, then it's all good. What exclusiveness? I'm not even remotely sure where that's coming from. Yes, I am saying that they are now selling/trading them, and my point is that Mattel has been very upset when things get out or money is being made and they aren’t getting it (see reissues etc). But now they seem to have created a situation and I wondered what everyone’s thoughts are. Ok, well, if Mattel didn't tell them they couldn't sell or trade them after featuring the figures on their social media channel, then that's on Mattel. I don't care if a dude sells something he got for free. Bill didn't like the fact that lineups were leaking ahead of time, sure...but this is a little different than that. In this case they are purposely sending figures to people in the hopes that they will be talked about. Also, what money is being made? What reissues? You seem all over the board here. The only situation they've created here is some people are sucking on sour grapes.

Because the products are promotional samples that are sent out before the release date, there is usually some sort of agreement that you won't resell the product for profit. If people are violating that, they'll likely be removed from the program and that's on them. If Mattel doesn't have any language about selling the samples, then that's their choice and it doesn't really impact any of us.

I could see being perturbed if, let's say, that Retro HBK figure was numbered /500 and Mattel wasn't sending unnumbered promotional samples, but actual finished and numbered figures to these reviewers...then sure, ok. That's taking figures out of retail circulation. But these are just newer figures that some people are getting a little early. If these are packaging samples, and were never meant to go to retail, does that effect the consumer? Not at all. I agree that this has very little impact (if any) on the common fan.

Who cares if they're selling the figures they receive? I know they're not getting paid money. If they spend all the time taking awesome pictures or creating tons of content that promotes Mattel's brand, they should be able to make a little bit of money off the figures if they choose to.

Mattel has been doing this at least since they started making DC figures in 2003. They are sending them the product to review and get the word out on. That is a big difference than items being stolen from the factory and sold. Also with the secondary market comment... Bill said something along the lines of if certain figures were going for so much on the secondary market then they would look into rereleasing them because there was still an interest in them. That is good business rereleasing product that there’s a demand for. I see no problem with it. It’s not like the figures they send them are some 1 of 25 employee Christmas exclusive JLU Hal Jordan Green Lantern figure. They are mass retail or mass retail store exclusives samples.

They’re gifts, which you can do with as you please. I doubt they have you sign a contract against selling.

My question is who's dumb enough to buy figures (and pay more) knowing they're going to come out in like a month or two.

Make me regret not using my photography and animation skills when I was younger. Congrats to those who earned it.

I don’t talk about figures on instagram or Twitter, I talk about them here. Why doesn’t Bill post here anymore? Have those sponsored collectors promised not to give any bad reviews?

Because WF are crazy rude and disrespectful towards him. Not all the members, but enough to not make him want to post anymore.

Basically no different than any other social media influencer getting free product to try out/promote.
In the end, these are $20-$25 toys. Some of you guys react to someone reselling a figure like the person stole your car and sent it to a chop shop.

My question is who's dumb enough to buy figures (and pay more) knowing they're going to come out in like a month or two. Check eBay any time a new figure starts to show up at retail. The first couple sold almost always go for an insane amount. Why anyone needs to be the first one to own a mass market figure is beyond me, but there are people who gots to have it. Have those sponsored collectors promised not to give any bad reviews? I don't know about that, but I read an interview with Pixel Dan where he actually did state that he felt pressured to always give a good review when he was first starting out. Now, he prefers to show off the figure. He'll still bring up negatives, but not harp on it because he's trying to have fun and be positive about toys.
