This is marketing in 2018
Instagram/snapchat/youtube/facebook influencers will reach a far greater and more targeted audience than any tv or print advertisements
In reality the number of these influencers is very low so even if some do sell the figures it wont make any difference to the secondary market

You are just jealous and delusional. This is marketing. The influencers are people with a following. This has nothing to do with leaked line ups or scalpers. Most toy companies do this. I'm not influenced by anybody with a following. Truth be told, I dont follow or watch anybody that reviews figures. I look at the lineups and decide what I want or not want to buy.

I dont see a problem with it at all. Its cool for the people that gets picked and they probably put a lot of work into it. As of now they getting figures we will get within a month or two so I dont see it as a bad thing just seems like Mattel found a cheap way of marketing and let us see the figures little earlier just like at a show like SDCC.

Stop fighting about toys. Go outside and do something productive with your day. Mark. Well technically you can be "fighting" on this forum and be outside at the same time. It's called a cell phone.

Must be nice to have all the store exclusives shipped to your house in a box. I can’t even get them shipped to my store.

Ok. I was trying to make sense of all this. Let me try
This is a different situation than when someone posts unauthorized photos of an item. While I have no idea as to whether Bill Miekena (sp) was really mad that someone took photos from Amazon and shared it here is true, I can say this. Companies like to control the flow of information. Maybe Amazon had a deal in place with Mattel that gave them the sole rights to use that photo. Have you ever been on youtube or been on instagram? Have you not seen posts that say "Content Removed by Content Owner"? That's the same thing here. It's hard to enforce online, but companies try.
So, they are giving certain social media influencers (that's a term of art not a comment on their effectiveness) the product ahead of time. It's a form of viral marketing. Yes, we old fogeys may be used to print media and seeing ads, but a lot of people buying today learn about stuff from social media. I had no idea about half of the products I've bought lately if it wasn't for seeing it on my actual friends instagram. So, when companies rely on these influencers, not only are they controlling where the information gets disseminated first, but also how.
They are using these influencers to break the news first. You may find it unfair that other collectors get this first, but you're looking at it from a collector standpoint. For these influencers, it's their job. It's no different from the press seeing Deadpool 2 days before the official release.

I really don't get the "I'm done with Mattel" comments in this thread. Kudos to the WWE team for finally promoting their product and getting information about upcoming releases out to a wider audience. This is nothing but a positive for all collectors - more eyes on the product means stronger sales and a better product for fans.
I and many others have been saying for months that Mattel could be doing more to market the product. Not they are, and people still are complaining. Can't say I blame Mattel for focusing their collector interactions on other venues.

I think every company that produces anything does this. I don't think it's really a big deal. I don't think it probably has any effect on business like with other items, but it definitely doesn't hurt.
On more expensive items like NECA 1/4 scale, and Medicom/Figuarts....I will watch reviews before I purchase. There are people on Instagram and YouTube who always get these before they hit retail....it's to influence the potential buyers with positive reviews. Same thing why critics and reviewers get to see movies before they hit theaters or why restaurants have special tastings for critics before they open to the public,....again, I don't think pre-releases to reviews influences the buys with WWE mattel figures as much as with other items...but as I said, it doesn't hurt.
I've watched people do unboxings and reviews of WWE mattel figures before for fun....but they've never been the deciding factor for to purchase or not to purchase.
Maybe for a playset to see if it has any flaws or for like the Main Event ring where the reviews show it is HORRIBLY out of scale and the turnbuckles are cheap $15 spring ring turnbuckles....but the figures are the figures. They've been releasing the same Elite figures with hardly any new parts for almost a decade, and the Basics have actually gotten worse, so we know what we're getting at this point. All the figures are pretty much the same few parts with different paint apps. No need to see a pre-release review to influence if you buy or not. Just look at the proto pics and hope you don't get a QC disaster.

This has been a common practice for a very long time. Movie critics get early screenings of movies. Book critics get advance copies of new books. DJs get albums/CDs before the official release date.
My only complaint is that the privilege is going to people like that guy in the video from page one... you know... the guy with all the charisma of paint drying. Mattel needs to make better choices because that guy was as excited to get those figures as I am when I have to clean my cat's litter box.

Agreed, but to be fair, the average wrestling fan has the social skills of Festus, so it's tough to find one that can be both well spoken and engaging.
