Went into one of my local WalMarts and found a full set of Elite 56 sans Roman Reigns. While I’m not complaining cause I got figures I wanted at retail, is it common for older lines to just randomly show up?
The same store still had two Rich Swanns, Charlotte Flair and probably 4/5 of each of the Wrestlemania Elites. While I’m happy these older figures showed up, I’m waiting on E59 or even E58 to show up at some of these stores. Only seen 1 WalMart in my area get E58.

E56 is an older line? In my area, that would be the latest release.

Those are not really old lines in my area.

It happens sometimes. I am more concerned about Elite 40-47a,Lost legends and 47b-53 all showing up at discount stores in the U.S. for $4.99 to $9.99. That is 2 years worth of elite figures showing up at Marshalls, TJ Maxx, 5 below, Ollies, Ross, Gabes and Big Lots. Crazy stuff.

I don't think anyone would view that as "old." All the Walmarts I visit got cases of E56 last week. After E57 came out by me, all the Walmart's I visit got cases of E54. I view it a good thing, and hope it continues, that way if I or anyone in general doesn't find what they want when it hits there's the possibility of them popping up again after a month or two.

This is just speculation, but most of the series you listed had expected shipping dates during the time period with the worst distribution issues we’ve ever seen in the US. I would assume warehouses bought too much by the way of E37-39, so while those series sat on pegs, E40 and up backed up at the DC and then needed to be sold to those discounters you listed so they could get caught up. Remember last year when we heard Mattel was pulling older sets off the shelves? I feel like it took the better part of 2 years to get where we are now, which is actually on time in some areas with E58. The two Walmart’s closest to me got E56 over the weekend, and my Target got a case of E54, so there are hiccups in the chain. If it takes another 2 months before we see E59 I’ll start to worry. That’s exactly how I feel about it, too. So long as we don’t start seeing 2-3 cases of these ‘slightly’ older sets on the shelves I’m good with it.

I agree its crazy what these stores and TRU has been getting in lately. I understand TRU if they just had it laying in the back but seems like all the stores are getting piles of these in. Im just wondering how many old cases of elite figures are sitting somewhere that might show up one day .

I wouldn't call it that old, but all my stores had gotten the Flashback Elites and sold through them and were currently filled with E57-58 and Wrestlemania Elites. I didn't realize a previous line would pop up. But yeah it was a pleasant surprise.

I think you're right, with maybe one slight difference. I don't think the big US retailers placed orders 40-44, and only smaller orders on E45-50ish. With the backup in stores, they don't need to replentish the DC's. Mattel was stuck with thousands of cases of unsold product, which they started selling at dcreasing prices until they got to or below cost. This would match up with sales data available - WWE was the top selling action figure last year, but as best I can tell their sales dropped or didn't increase enough to report. That would fit with selling more figures in quantity, but at a lower profit margin than years past. Remember, these series started popping up at Big Lots for around $10 over a year ago. And I think the Survivor Series Walmart shippers we saw with E42/43 were also from discount cases, meaning Walmart made a killing when they set them out at $20 after paying probably around $5/figure. I think we've finally reached the balance where most of the produced cases are being sold in the first run, though there will always be some quantity of unsold cases since Mattel doesn't use a made to order production system.

That’s right! I’d almost forgot those shippers for SS. I remember seeing those old figures moving quickly and wondering why they flew so quickly that holiday season versus the prior one. Great point.

Not sure how relevant this is to what the OP encountered, but my local Walgreens, which had become the most reliable source for new WWE Elite releases in my area, just got in Bo Dallas and Dean Ambrose from Elite 36. Those definitely count as old IMO!

In my area (SoCal) I’ve gotten complete sets of Elite 36 showing up everywhere (Kmart, Big Lots, TRU) and pretty much every TRU in the area has gotten Elite 38 recently and pretty much cleared everything else out. It’s been a good time for me to get into the collecting game because I’ve had this opportunity to catch up at discounted prices but I’d like to see more recent sets show up. I think the good news regarding distribution is that none of the stores staying open seem to have too many figures at least.

There are a ton of E38 that showed up at my TRU and they are in a different area of the store not with the other WWE items

I think its laughable to call e56 old. Most stores I've been to have e54 Charlotte and cena still.
2 sets back is old.
