unfortunately i think it does... I mean i hear kids mumble rapping all the time... some are asking mum and dad for a 'face tattoo' for Xmas too... but i wouldn't say is as much as before, we have many more freedoms nowadays, back in the day music was used as real expression and trend setters that related to the world at the time you know what i mean? I appreciate all y'alls responses. It is interesting to see that most agree it does mean something still. That is positive to know music does still hold weight. I think Superjoker pulled it all together in my head with the "more freedoms" line. It still means something, but we can have other outlets now that are just as visible and meaningful for some folks, but others will fly the music flag forever. I guess I never saw the change like that. For me though, music will always be a lifestyle movement. Punks, Goths, Metalheads, etc. They helped me find a way to define myself when I felt lost and like a ghost. Tower Records has it right.... No Music. No Life. At least for me. Wow, Tower Records. Haven't heard that name in awhile.

I can relate to the lifestyle bit in particular. I can link most of my favourite bands to at least one of those genres you mentioned.

Yes, but it seems like more negatively than positively. There’s trash in every genre but hip hop seems to be worse than others. The large majority of it is fine but the very loud minority is total garbage. If it were only mature adults listening to it it wouldn’t be a problem, but when there are 12-15 year old kids listening to this sh*t about killing people and doing/selling hard drugs it’s harmful to society.

MEANWHILE IN THE WORLD OF THE SHELTERED WHITE GUY lmao that’s not what I’m getting at. It’s not a race issue so don’t make it one. The point is that some people from EVERY RACE, and yes that’s E V E R Y R A C E don’t have the common sense to understand that’s it’s art not meant to be taken as incentive to actually do that type of sh*t when it’s supposed to be fun and harmless. I’m not saying that people shouldn’t be allowed to use the lyrics they want, I’m talking about the influence it has. Neither my race nor anyone else’s has anything to do with my point, and neither of those make my point any less relevant.
