Because there was a huge backlash because she was playing a tranny. And they thought only a real tranny could play the role, becaise its not called acting or anything.
People weren't so upset when Chadwick Bozeman took a role from a real panther.
Or when Sandra bullock took a role from a real astronaut.
Or when tom hanks took a role from an actually mentally handicapped person.
Or whem Amy Schumer and Melissa McCarthy took roles from actual funny people.
So why now? It's pathetic. This is why they do it. Because in the end, they get what they wanted.
I thought we were against bullying.

I think the issue here was that transgendered actors/actresses aren't typically cast in roles of non-transgendered characters. So when a seemingly lucrative role for an actual transgendered person is given to Scarlett Johansson (a non-transgendered actress), a good number of transgendered actresses voiced their concern due to the roles being sparse for them. Don't you worry, Scarlett Johansson's going to be just alright in landing other roles.

There's a movie coming out about a "transgender", they get mad that they didnt cast a "transgender"...now it wont likely get made (and if it does wont be near the release it would have with Johansson)
Congrats, you played yourself.

This thread will end well.
Honestly, she probably did the right thing by dropping out. Would she have (likely) brought in a wider audience as she's a household name? Sure; but if the producers of the film want to tell an authentic story; then it seems only right that should cast a person who identifies as trans, there ARE actors out there.

But it is also called acting. You don't have to be what you are portraying. There are actors that have killed people. Do they get all the good killer parts like Jason? It was literally bullying and they gave in. Its sad. Wasn't a movie o was gonna watch anyway, so whatever. But it's funny how the rules change based on who is doing what.

Okay, I get you think you’re funny with the whole “this person is this thing but they weren’t cast as this thing” Schtick... but you’re not. Your “comparisons” are way off base and lame. There are tons of trans actors out there looking for their shot to break into the business; this could be an opportunity for them to do just that, and bring an authenticity to the role that ScarJo can’t. It’s lived experience and that would translate into their ACTING in a way that she can’t do, no matter what.

Stop using it.

Also, the word tranny is super offensive and gross. Stop using it. I don't care what people think is funny or not, the whole thing is ridiculous. Fact is that it has never been a standard that you have to be something in order to portray it onscreen. If those actors were any good, they would be sought after. They aren't. The fact that someone should not take a paying job because someone else wants it or thinks they could do better is laughable. I can promise you if the roles were reversed, if a tranny backed out of a role because a segment of the population got upset that they were playing black widow (sticking to the Scarlett topic) there would be an uproar of epic proportions. Also, that's the word I use, that's the word I'm gonna use. I'm not worried about offending the weak who can be defeated by a word. You've said your peace, you don't have to continue to reply if you don't like my views.

Okay tough guy. 👍🏼 You seem pretty easily offended by a movie and it’s casting choice that has no impact on your life, but what do I know?

The irony is that this very thread is a shining example of why marginalized groups feel the need to speak out against being misrepresented in mass media outlets.
