As a fan of wrestling's entire history, I've found troves of colorful characters that I would love to have proper figures depicting their likeness but know that said figures would never sell. Furthermore, as an aspiring educator with a specialty in creative writing and an avid writer and reader, I have written all sorts of characters that I would like to depict in my fantasy promotions. These two factors have led me to often buy figures solely for their aesthetic capacity to portray the character and perform the move-set of the character I've created or wrestler I wish to depict. I was curious about how often any of the WFIGS members have done this. This thread is intended for discussion of slightly fixed up or non/customized figures, but I would not mind hearing stories about going the extra mile to bring characters to life, and hope the admins find this topic acceptable.

I think when people rip apart their figures to make customs it’s awful. Back in the days of BCAs and early TTL figures I could see people making customs because the figure’s likeness wasn’t always there. However now with every figure having a unique scan that matches the wrestlers face it’s stupid. Drew Galloway and Tyler Breeze look nothing like the young bucks but that’s everyone’s go to. Damien Sandow looks nothing like Marty Scrull and Daniel Bryan looks nothing like Kenny Omega. So yeah I hate seeing people using scanned parts to make crappy looking customs that just look like a wrestler playing dress up. As far as original characters same would apply. You can mix and match whatever you want but the heads are 3D photos

You can mix and match whatever you want but the heads are 3D photos I've noticed both of those in customs as well. I figure like the Daniel Bryan choice has to do with the cheekbones being just close enough, and I know everyone uses the Tyler Breeze body because the outfit is essentially the same. I don't quite understand the issue with headscans, but okay. I personally hate seeing rare figures become custom fodder. Like Bruno Sammartino for example. That figure should be left moc 4 out of 5 times, and only used for poses if kept loose, but I have seen so many people use it as custom fodder and it makes me angry enough to break something.

The thing you have to remember is those "rare" figures once rotted shelves just like ones do now. Something you might pay $30-40 on ebay now cost someone else $2 at Kmart.

I used the jakks grand master sexay with white and black pants as myself. I thought I was cool and became a 50 time world champ

Years ago, someone turned a Legends Bulldog into Ken Shamrock and but it on the Bay. I bought that figure so I could put the head on a HOF Warrior body and make “Shamrock” in black. I modified the face well enough that it convinced my son and my wife that Shamrock actually had a figure.
I did the same thing with a JAKKS TNA Kurt Angle head on a Michael Bisbing body to create Randy Couture. This held over until Couture was actually produced.

Except for the fact that Bruno makes a great base for the Magnificent Muraco. Has the bulk, the hairy chest and same skin tone as the Jakks CS Head which fits perfectly.

I used to use the Deluxe Aggression Series 12 Shawn Michaels as Kevin Nash for a couple of months until i actually got a Nash figure back in 2009. I remember using this white tape to make a bandanna for him and that was my 'Kevin Nash'.

If they make Dr. Death, I'll probably blend it wit TNF Pillman for a Benoit(plan to swap basic HTM's calves). I also bought an extra B8 Finlay for an Owen custom, but couldn't pull it off so I put his head on a fixed up basic Ricardo for an 80s/90s ref.

I never bought wrestlers to be another wrestler but when I was a kid I used Sydney Savage from Danger girls as Francine from ECW! Glad there’s an official Francine figure coming out soon!

I did back in the Jakks BCA days. I stopped using them as the characters they were and made up all new characters for them in a fictional fantasy league.

I do occasionally. None of the guys I make are the quality of those regularly posted in the Fix-Up thread, just basic part swaps. I need them to be functional in the ring, and be able to at least pass for a certain guy. I don't concern myself with head-to-toe builds, custom paintjobs, or decals.
