Lots of wrestling deaths in 2018- Bruno, Vader, Saito, Cappottelli, Big Bully Busick, Jimmy Valiant, and today Brickhouse Brown, Brian Christopher, and Nikolai Volkoff. I hope it ends here, but the year is far from over.

Sheiky's tribute stung so hard for me. He's one of my all time favorites, and this is just far too close for comfort, being how integral to part of Sheik's overall appeal Volkoff was. What a tremendous performer. What an outstanding heel. And what a life - it's sad to see him go, but by all accounts, he was a immense family man, married for something like 35 years. To come from that era, have that to boast, and to live to 70 is an anomaly in that industry. Swig of seltzer for the Soviet Man, and a tip of the hat for a life well lived.

Wanna share a personal story with you humanoids...
Back in 2016 Nikolai was doing a signing at a wrestling superstore in NJ and at that time I had no clue the store existed. It wasn't until early 2017 when I found out about the store. Every time I'd go throughout the year I would ask the owner if Nikolai would ever step back in for a signing and he'd be like ''unfortunately no. No signings planned for the immediate future''. Today when I found out he passed it really bummed me out because if I only knew back in 2016 about the store I would've been probably the 1st in line getting my classic Jakks fig of his signed and just thanking him for many years of entertainment and memories. I unfortunately never got that chance.
But even though I never got the chance to say it to him face to face I still wanna thank Nikolai Volkoff for many years of entertainment that will stick with me and fans worldwide forever.
1 more time let's all rise for the singing of the Russian National Anthem!!

I’m crushed. Love you, Nikolai!
Edit: I am loving the twitter responses to the Sheik. “I hated you guys as a kid. My condolences.” About sums it up. Those two were the greatest.

Too bad you don't live in NYC. He did lots of signings here over the last several years. I was fortunate to meet him.

I met Heenan at WrestleCon 2017 and told him”I hated you when I was 10.” He said “Me too.” I told Orndorff the same thing and he laughed like crazy.

So sad. One of the greatest heels at the time, but sounds like he was one of the nicest guys around.
RIP Nikolai.

I met Volkoff a few times. He was always very nice to me and all his fans. Definitely one of my favourite heels of all time. RIP sir.

Sad news. Pretty sure I was introduced to him by SmackDown Here Comes The Pain. Still remember his HOF induction speech. And got his Classic figure that year too which I still have. Rest In Peace.

Would there be a reason Hogan hasn’t said anything about Nikolai? He’s been on twitter since noting Lawler’s death. Just wondering. Feels wrong for the greatest ‘80s face to not say anything. Is there bad blood?
