Heel Orton would be cool, and they have never feuded. Their styles (no pun intended) would work well, and I think are complementary. Plus, Orton is the epitome of a WWE-made superstar (has only worked there, 3rd gen wrestler, etc.), while Styles has made his name outside of the company before joining, and is still fairly new.

Not that I'm happy about anybody losing their job, but I feel we dodged a bullet when Big Cass was released...

I was about to say that this new version of Orton should be the one to take the title from AJ. He deserves one more WWE title reign before he decides to hang up his boots. His last one was abysmal and a complete waste.

If not Joe, then nobody - especially not the above mentioned.

I think AJ should still hold on to the title for a while, but this would be my order of guys:
1. The Miz 2. Randy Orton 3. Andrade "Cien" Almas 4. Samoa Joe 5. Daniel Bryan

As much as I really would love to see Joe with a WWE title run....
Leave the belt on AJ. Give him a legitimate "record" run with it. As long as Bryan re-signs, build Bryan up...he doesn't have to win the Rumble next year although that would be great, especially if they had it come down to Bryan & Miz as the final 2, with Bryan throwing Miz out. Then you give Bryan the ultimate moment by having him defeat AJ at Wrestlemania next year. Bryan can now have his proper run with the WWE title that he never got.
if Bryan doesn't re-sign, then give the belt to Joe at some point in the near future, just keep AJ near the main event. I feel like Summerslam is gonna be an amazing match between these 2

Orton has taken a backseat to the main event (which is fine), for the past several years with the brief exception of the Wyatt and Jinder feuds. With Kane out of the picture, Orton is probably the most tenured, continuous full-time active roster member in the company. He should be leveraged more than he is right now, he could be making the company a lot of money.

I hate these long runs, where the title are only in serious jeopardy at one of the big shows. I miss the days where a couple month title reign was solid and during a feud you may trade it back and forth.

Joe should win it but then have AJ win the war in the Cell match. AJ’s reign has been rather uneventful, cockknocking aside.

Almas, Rusev, or Big E.

Samoa Joe or Rusev would be my top picks.
If not them, why not Randy Orton? Heel Orton is the best Orton, and they’re letting him be the sadistic heel again instead of a coward like he was during the Authority storyline in ‘13-14. I wouldn’t mind seeing him get a run with the belt and terrorizing his challengers in backstage segments.

Doesn't AJ's contract end in January? I know he'll probably re-sign, but what if they try to redo the Punk angle with him?
I don't know how close AJ is to CM (I say that because what I have planned is borderline disrespectful), but what I'd love to see happen is AJ walks into the RR as champion, wins, and then the next SDL comes out and says "My contract is up" (It really isn't. He'd have to re-sign for this to work) "but unlike a certain punk, I'm not leaving with the WWE Championship. I will continue to defend this title day in and day out inside a WWE ring. And, until someone beats me for it, I'm not going anywhere."
Then he can lose at Wrestlemania to Miz or Joe and take some much needed R and R before coming back to attack Samoa Joe or Miz or whomever "retired" AJ from WWE. I personally would use an up and coming heel like Cien Almas to give him some major heat.

I'd be fine if Joe were to win it next week. As far as long tenured reigns go, I'm much more a fan of someone of Joe's stature holding it down. To me, he's easier to buy as an unbeatable force than someone who's more in line with the overall build of most of his challengers, and so having him plow through the competition before ultimately falling makes it feel less convoluted down the road when some like, I dunno, Shinsuke eventually wins the title after geting knocked back time and time again.
All the same, I'm not gonna be too upset if AJ retains. I'm not too difficult to please these days. There's plenty of talent across the board that I'd like to see hold the belt, but having AJ hold it down for a bit longer isn't gonna rattle me none.

He won the BFG series in 2013 and then won the title, all while his contract had expired. He then refused to sign a new deal with TNA (in real life too), and walked out with the title. TNA then made Magnus the new champ and AJ returned for a title unification match that he lost. Then AJ went to Japan. So he already crossed copying the Summer of Punk off of his bucket list.

I hate these short reigns where everyone gets to be champion, I safe the short reigns for tv title and tag teams the world titles and ic belt should have solid loooong runs.

I'd love to see Joe get a run with it. Even if he loses it back to AJ in a month or two. Word. If AJ vs. Joe becomes a program and not a one-off match I'll be really annoyed if it doesn't start with Joe winning the belt. None of this Styles winning all the important matches or no contests that plagued AJ vs. Nakamura.
