New to the forum and new to collecting. Least to say I still have a lot to learn. My question to you all is; How much does the condition of the packaging affect the value of the figure?

Hey and welcome. Packaging condition is very important. Loose figures sell for considerably less than MOC generally, so if its in a beat up box its only really gonna be loose figure value. However, if you collect loose, the box is irrelevant anyways

Assuming we know the difference between price and value- From seeing figure prices over the years, the more important thing that affects the resale/scalper price is what the actual figure is, packaging is second. For example, you can find loose and MOC figures of wrestlers that aren't in demand for like 5 bucks. Their low prices reflect the low value collectors put on them. A low production figure will have higher value to collectors, so the prices will be set higher by resellers. If they're MOC, you can set the price higher and hope you hook someone who badly wants it MOC, but either way you're gonna make a chunk of profit. However, the same figure has no value to people who don't collect every single figure or don't like the wrestler (I mean, unless they're also a reseller, then it's valuable in that way lol).
That's where collectors get irritated, do they really want to spend $100 on a figure they don't even like, just for the sake of completing their collection?

However, if you collect loose, the box is irrelevant anyways For example I just bought a Miz elite 3 that I was thinking of returning. It has a pretty considerable crease on the part it would be hung from in the store. Then minor wear on the edges. The figure is 8 years old so there is that to consider. But do you think that this is something that is considered to be in the loose figure value range?

Figures I keep in the package I'm awfully picky with and if there's any wrinkles or creases or whatever I don't want it at all. The bulk of my collection, however, is loose, which makes buying things a whole lot easier. But what you like, don't buy what you don't like and don't worry about reselling because if you're buying for the right reasons that's not going to be a main concern. But, yes, condition is a huge factor in value for MOC figures.

If you bought it online and none of the packagig wear was mentioned or shown in the listing, then you should consider a return, but also consider if you can improve on the one you have

Very much bro. I’ve talked sellers down $20 or more depending on the figure or condition of the box. I’m a MOC collector only.
