You guys are posting some seriously outdated butterfly joints. If you want to see some great ones, then look up the Marvel Legends Spiderman 2099 buck. The smoothest butterfly joints I've ever seen.
I'd be in heaven if Mattel decided to include Double Jointed elbows. Butterfly joints yes if done right, but I don't need fingers or toe joints. Ever.

Double jointed elbows would be cool imo. The butterfly joint I’m iffy about because they could either look good or just flat out ugly. I think the ML deadpool looks good with the butterfly joints. I do remember bill saying that they wouldn’t remove elite articulation, but add more if any.

That Wolverine came out last year and the Spider-Man 2099 is the figure with the white mask & torso that was in the wave with the Build a Sandman? I have it is is OK because the suit design hides it just like the Home Coming/Avengers Spider-Man. The web design of the costume hides the articulation. But on a shirtless body that butterfly joint will be a major eyesore.

What are butterfly joints? Asking for a friend. What PJ said ^^, but even those are passable. These are the worse eyesores I've ever seen...

It also looks fantastic on Bullseye, but unfortunately I think butterfly joints will always look odd on shirtless figures at first. But I think people would eventually warm up to them.

These butterflys doesnt look bad. Yes i love double jointed elbows.. And speaking of marvel legends, i love how their ratcheted ab crunch have more range. Its more satisfying to pose them. In fact i'm buying and looking forward to buy more marvel legends figures over elites.

n2jib I like the buttferfly joints on wolverine. However, I hate the ratchet joints, it makes posing a pain. I feel like the plastic on marvel legends are really cheap and feel more like a knockoff figure :/

I just feel like with double jointed elbows and butterfly joints, you get so many more posing options rather than the boring vanilla pose you get from WWE figures. I'd love to be able to do the wrestling equivalent of ACBA with my figures posed in a ring, but with the current articulation format it looks hideous at best, so everyone is just standing on a shelf like it's a middle school classroom photo.

And those articulation cuts in the chest without any muscle cuts to hide them in will be an eyesore.

Pair that with the wider range of movement, i find it more satisfying to play with than elites. But what you aren’t seeing is without those shoulder pads his shoulders are set too low and far out. And those articulation cuts in the chest without any muscle cuts to hide them in will be an eyesore. I have the figure and i've took off the shoulder pads before. I dont have a problem with how the shoulders look howver i do think those butterflys in plain skin colour would look a bit weird. But if its like storm collectibles one, i can live with it.

I think Marvel Legends has the best overall scheme when it comes to articulation. The only things that Mattel lacks in that respect are proper ankle pivots and double jointed knees, maybe a neck joint but not necessary.
I say this because Hasbro gives some characters a butterfly joint and not others, and if Mattel ever wanted to follow in those footsteps they could change the articulation depending on the character. Cruiserweights could have the more Spider-Man like articulation with butterflies and such but beefier characters like Strowman are basically fine as they are. At least that's how I'd go about it.

As do I and it’s the same base as the brown costume figure minus the shoulder pads. And that figure you can see the shoulders sit to far out of the torso, because of the butterfly joints. They just look odd to me. Actually the two Wolverine figures have different parts. At least the arms are, because the yellow tiger stripe figure has larger arms. But the torsos are the same.

if they haven't added double jointed elbows by now they won't. im shocked that they're even including swappable hands and heads now. funny thing is that it's not even ground breaking that they're doing it now theyre really just keeping up with what a lot of other companies have been doing for a while now.

You peeps are talking as if it's completely outside the realm of possibility to make minor adjustments to those flap joints (lol) to blend them into the sculpt more. It's true that there aren't many examples of them being incorporated seamlessly (but why are these a bigger eyesore than the pins in the knees?), but look at it as an opportunity for someone to finally make them look okay, instead of being afraid of everything turning out badly.
Do we have any Mattel toy designers lurking around to give some insight on why they didn't go with the flappy joints (and double elbows) to begin with?

Of course they looked bad there! Haha. Marvel legends are INFINITELY more fun to pose around because they can move more naturally thanks to the better articulation scheme. I agree on the ab crunch. The elite’s ab crunches are pitiful in comparison to ML’s. There’s a lot Mattel could learn from Hasbro in terms of ML’s compared to Elites. Just like ML’s, every Elite doesn’t need the butterfly joints though.

Storm did it with their Hogan figures. The butterfly and double-elbow joints work great. As a wrestling figure collector, I enjoy actually having figures that can perform the moves they're supposed to be doing. There's no real reason why a wrestling figure can't do a waist lock on another figure.
I'm of the mindset that Mattel needs to tweak the elite line altogether. It's been basically the same figure since 2010. We're getting the alternate hands now, which is great and I'm a fan of the idea. Butterfly and/or double elbow joints would be great to see implemented. I'd love if the figures could come with extra heads, maybe a standard expression and a more exaggerated shouting/gritting expression.
Odds are, all that would lead to a price increase. Personally I wouldn't mind paying a little extra for a more versatile and better all-around figure.
