man, so many people were harping on the Big East and Big Ten for opening their schedules with mostly-D2-laden openers. "not so fast, my friend" michigan is losing to the reigning D2 champions, appalachian state, 31-26 late in the 4th... absolutely UNREAL. this will literally make my month--if not my year--if michigan craps the bed, in the big house, in the opener, against a division-2 opponent. it will literally make my damn month. They're not D2, they are still Division I (DI-AA/FCS)... but still, holy crap

They're not D2, they are still Division I (DI-AA/FCS)... but still, holy **** meh, bowl subdivision or whatever they call it now... i just refer to it as D2 out of habit when something like this upset happens, it can be easy to get swept up in the hyperbole of its impact on a grander scale when its so fresh in your mind. retrospective really tends to change the historical relevance of certain sporting events like this, so people tend to react prematurely. but, honestly... retrospective or not, this has got to be the biggest upset in the BCS era of college football. if not all of college football history. just an unbelievable game, and the shockwaves should be deafening; i wouldn't be surprised if Lloyd Carr was fired within the next hour.

D1-AA is still Division I... Division 2 is entirely different. I'll be surprised if Carr makes it home from the stadium.

I was so happy when I saw that appalachian state beat michigan. You just don't lose this game. You put them on the schedule so you can win. But I do give App. St. great respect because this win put them at 15 wins in a row. No matter what division you play in thats a great accomplishment.

My god i feel bad for Henne and Hart, and i hate Michigan, but to come back for your senior season and to lose like that. Ouch.
Some of the ratings this year are unreal.Texas at 4, LSU at 2,and i'm not even going to start with my hate for USC.

because they should be #1. seriously though, I do think they'll walk away with the BCS title this season, even though Flynn strikes me as terribly pedestrian. a deep and balanced running attack, the best WR in the SEC in Doucet, a veteran offensive line with an absolutely dominant left side, and the defense goes without saying. the best in the country. if they don't at least make it to the BCS title game in NOLA, i'll be shocked. i've really got no problem with USC at #1. first and foremost, because I think pre-season rankings are complete bullcrap and they need to be done away with. rankings should not be compiled and released until week 4 at the earliest. but since they're not, USC is a prime choice for #1 based on talent alone. there is not a more talented nor deeper team in the country. name me another team that could've lost a talent the caliber of Emmanuel Moody, and not even bat an eyelash?

Michigan out of the top-25. first time since Oklahoma in 1968(i think?) that a top-5 team fell entirely out of the AP rankings after a loss.
Texas drops 3 spots after struggling against Ark St.
Penn State up 3 spots after bowling over a terrible FIU team.
Tennessee down to #24 after their loss to Cal.

Texas is still WAY to high.LSU should be #1, if USC was in the SEC they would of lost at least 2 games in each of the last 3 seasons.
Michigan shouldn't of dropped all the way out. App St. is a damn good team, and they lost because of a blocked kick.they should be 24th or 25th in my own personal oppinion.

It's a shame there aren't more CF fans here. Decent day of college football. Nice SEC battle with South Carolina vs Georgia. Spurrier finally gets Georgia IN Georgia.
LSU vs Va Tech should be fun to watch, but I don't think VA Tech has as much of a chance as ESPN is trying to insinuate.

Watched the ND/PSU game with my dad and a bunch of ND fans. At the end of the night the tagline was "Well we lost tonight but Jimmy is gonna be a beast in like two years". I'll take the win now.
