Saw this for the first time at Target today. It was in front of the Pops section but it has me wondering if this will be the case with all collectibles/toys.

Doubt it. I bought a case of HOC2 and they didn’t say anything

They tried the same crap with not being able to pull stuff from the back. The employees don’t care

I think it’s always been a policy but not always displayed or enforced. It’s typically only enforced on high demand/limited quantity items like new console releases.

I've seen that signage come and go, especially during holiday seasons. It seems to pop up when there are very limited quantities of exclusives. And I know what you're thinking, but I've never seen it in the WWE section. On one hand, it helps stop ultimate scalpers.

That sign is totally useless anyway. I am pretty sure employees scalp all the good stuff for themselves or sell on eBay/facebook/etc.

That sign is totally useless anyway. I am pretty sure employees scalp all the good stuff for themselves or sell on eBay/facebook/etc. I posted this in the Tito thread: Just a somewhat random comment: When I was hunting for HOC 2 Figures this past weekend, I had gone to what I refer to as the Scalper Target. Eveyrtime there's an exclusive, there's been issues. For example, I got their super early (5am) to track down a Pikachu Pop. The tracker said it was in stock. I talked to a department manager (I guess?) and he told me they had them in stock and would bring them out. It was the day before. The store manager came out and said they can't sell them. THe next day, I came down super early again, first one in. The store manager said they never received the box. I told him you brought it out yesterday, and he flat out denied it. Last week, I asked the same department manager if they had HOC 2 bc it was showing in stock. He went to the back. While waiting that same store manager came out, asked if I needed help, and I told him I was looking for HOC 2. He "checked" on his scanner and said there was none. I wait 10 minutes after the store manager left, and the first department guy comes back with a fresh case. So IDK what's going on. Seems like he's hiding the exclusives to purchase himself and sell online. Where was I? This got away from me a bit... Oh yeah. So while waiting in the WWE aisle, the store manager said "Why on earth do we have 8 Tito Santana's?" Thought that was funny. Even the Scalper Target can't get rid of them. I will say I'm pretty sure, because the tracker for at least Pikachu went from in stock to out of stock after the store opened at 8am. So I'm certain he's buying them to sell.

That’s not new. They were doing it as far back as the early ‘00 when Hasbro has the DC license and were releasing their 9” DCSH figures.

The sign is like the groundhog Punxsutawney Phil. It pops up usually once a year, gets scared and runs back into a hole for 11 months.

No it’s a very common pop vinyl thing. Target is the worst company for any sort of exclusive and their funkos are the worst. They never get more than 6 of any Target exclusive at a store. Most of the time you’re lucky to get 4 and they’re always kept in the back by employees to keep for themselves or to scalp for money

all you have to do is just buy a few and then come back in and get more and go to a different register

What weirdos are buying them in large quantities anyway? But, why does a store care as long as they shift the stock? If it was me, i wouldbt care if someone came in and bought 150 figures

If it was me, i wouldbt care if someone came in and bought 150 figures I would imagine this is done for two reasons. 1. Complaints from customers. 2. Hobbyists and collectors of certain lines are a drain on the staff. They’re so needy, annoying, and are incredibly difficult to deal with (I’ve specifically had people tell me that hardcore Pop collectors and Hot Wheels collectors fall into this category) I’m sure there are more reasons but I’d assume these are the main catalysts for it.

Back in the late 90s, when the 3 3/4" Star Wars: Power of the Force line had started back up and was going strong, they put out similar signs... as well as punching holes in the cards so moc collectors wouldn't buy them all up.

I go out of my way to distance myself from others so as to not be lumped in with them.

The only time I ever did the whole wait in line thing was for the Pikachu, and someone threatened to kill me over it. The guy was running in the parking lot, full speed and I had to jam on my breaks to avoid hitting him (Ok, Jam may be too strong of a word I was going 5 mph as I was turning into a spot. He had walked there and was popping out of a bush). The guy then waits as I park and threatens to hit me in the face when I get out. Then he sees the line and bolts to it because he wanted a PIkachu more I guess.

I haven't seen any violence in my area aside from occasional light pushing and attempted line-cutting...but I have seen people be downright abhorrent to the poor people working at these stores and it's disturbing.

Funko collectors are a special type, I stock things and I got accused of hiding the good ones by a trio of them, you don't even get that with Hot Wheels guys. That's why I like WWE Mattel , because they're consistent and even though you have a few exceptional collectors, people usually aren't taking the cases off of pallets immediately like Marvel or Transformers, and nobody reeeeally cares.
