I don't think many employees are hiding/selling back door. Most just don't care. They're busy, they just want to get through their shift at their crap, low paying job. They don't care. I don't blame them.
I talk all that crap, and low and behold, a lady at Target got me Ron Simmons and DIY today LOL. She was kinda miffed I asked, and had an attitude, but she checked and got them for me so no harm, no foul.
But lately, they just haven't been checking AT ALL for me when they used to do it with no problem ALL the time. At least they're not as bad as Walmart, they just give me a dull stare and a grunt. Something's better than nothing I guess lol.

And lets not forget, staff get a small % discount, they dont get them for free, just a perk to their otherwise not great job, i have nothing against it/them

I understand why the employees flip too, it's BECAUSE of those crazy collectors. You buy 6 Pops for 9 bucks a piece and sell them for 50 each? No brainer. On the other hand, throwing out accusations at someone when you just don't know is silly. The store might NOT have gotten them in, or someone might have beaten you to the punch. After all, if it's something hot or in demand, you're not going to be the only one after it. That all goes back to people saying "Damn scalpers got them all!" Well, did they? What if another collector beat you there? This has always been my response to the scalper threads. I'm sure it happens on some occasions but it seems like a lot of people here think they are the only collector in their area and everyone else is a scalper. Trust me, you aren't the only one hunting. Ok and I don’t want to go too far off topic but in my case I know that’s what happened. I literally had the box in front of me containing Pikachu pops. The store manager (or at least someone higher than the guy who pulled it) grabbed he box and said no. Next day I’m the first one there and that same guy said they never got a box. I told him I literally saw the box and the pop figure and he tellls me I was mistaken. Brickseek said it was in stock and then 10 minutes later it was out of stock. So it does happen. It may not be as often or as prevalent as one might think but it does happen.

The closest Toys R Us to me had a confirmed scalper/reseller. He worked there and then I'd see him selling at conventions. I hope you didn't take my post as a shot at you. I just feel in most cases, its other collectors beating us.

So as someone who is a collector as well as someone that had worked jobs where the clientele is a pain, I try and sympathize with people the best I can. But for people that have “low paying jobs”. So when I got into Target or Walmart I generally never ask for anything. BUT, there have been the handful of times that I have asked. I’ve literally offered people with “low paying jobs” cash (trying to be cool and give them something for bothering to help me out) and the result is ALWAYS the same. THEY DONT EVEN BOTHER TO CHECK. Again, I’ve had crappy jobs and if a customer asked for my help and offered me cash to do so, you better believe I’d help them. But most people I see can’t even be bothered to do something that could even help them out. It’s mind blowing to me. I’ve actually found more people that essentially turn down free money than I have actual helpful people that would do it because, it’s part of their job.

The collectors/resellers themselves are the reason employees don't enforce any of those policies, because they start throwing around accusations and threatening calls to the manager. Basically 30 year olds having tantrums in the store. When I worked retail, if I got one of those asshats hassling me to buy all the stock of something, I made sure to damage the packages while bringing it out for them, or take out whatever special "build a figure" piece that was supposed to be in there. those guys.

The employees can get fired for taking money from customers, even if it's "free" or a "tip". I had a job where celebrities would sometimes come in to buy stuff, and some of them were happy enough with the service that they'd give us like $10 to get a beer after work or whatever. It was cool, but we couldn't take any of the money because it was against the rules.
But anyway, that said, I agree, retail employees become dead inside. No one understands what it's like to work retail unless they've done it, from manually cranking open the giant bay doors at 5AM to fixing the exact same products on the shelves for the 100th time in one day.

Man I haven’t seen it like this since the Starting Lineup craze. My grandpa used to send me through the line to buy multiples 😂. The only difference is he still has them. He never tried to resell them, he intended to somewhere down the line but he didn’t. So I can’t really call him a scalper.
The POP thing is a bit out of control. I don’t collect them except for some of the WWE ones and a few Stranger Things. Some nice girl was able to hold an SDCC exclusive Stranger Things set for me back in July. I got a few dirty looks when I went to the counter to pick it up.

Some of the prices are just crazy! I had to have Eva Marie because it’s Eva Marie. And I only bought into the Stranger Things because of the amount of characters they released. But other than that they are just weird. There are so many, too many exclusives and variants lol. It reminds me of that old 70s flick, The Stuff 😂

They need to throw this sign up around the WWE figs my area, god damn it's scalper central right now. I'll probably mention it to the manager who I'm very tight with tomorrow to put that sign up. Not to mention the repacks. It's all good though the strict ass security team there is well aware now.

I work at Target. That mainly is for the Funko pops. Action figures don’t have any restrictions.

This has to be nearly impossible to enforce. I'm guessing this might be in place just to deal with the occasional unruly customer.

I'm really cool about being polite when asking questions. Yesterday, I asked about the HOF set. The employee said there was none in the back. I ask if she knew how many she had in stock because I only saw 3 on the shelf. It was the first time the employee said they weren't allowed to give that information. I was caught off guard by the response, but she had said that they aren't allowed because the inventory isn't always accurate.
I'm blown away that a rule like this is in the policy handbook somewhere, if true.
Whats wrong with telling a customer in hand quantities and then telling me that it's not always accurate?
Next, they will say that they aren't allowed to tell you if a specific figure you are looking for is in stock over the phone.

In a few years no one will want POPs either I'm sure there will be a time when Pops aren't as big a deal as they are now (like back when they first started making them in 2010), but they will most likely be making Pops in some way, shape, or form for quite a while. Pops are really no different than any other toy. Are toys completely dead or out of style? No. Not yet. Marvel and WWE figures are still some of the biggest sellers around. Same with Hot Wheels and Barbie. How many differently colored El Camino Hot Wheels do you need? Beanies were stuffed animals. There's a much smaller market for something like that. Pops are actually licensed characters with a passing likeness, and there is still a big market for vinyl figures.
