I really miss them. I was going to 3 stores each week and there is just a huge void in my free time now. There is also sentimental reasons as well. As much as people love online shopping, no child will fondly remember getting a toy from Amazon.

I miss it for nostalgic reasons (when I was a kid). But in terms of current collecting, other than their store exclusives, none of my nearby stores seemed to ever turn over figures quickly enough. They hardly ever had any main line figures I needed.

I live in Canada where we still have TRU stores, so I am not sure what it's like to feel depressed about that store closing down.

Yeah, I really do miss TRU.
It was the only place left for me to really “hunt” as I generally have an idea of what Walmart and Target have because of things like Brickseek. TRU was the last hunting place available to me (outside of a local KMart that never has ANYTHING). Now it feels like something is missing because now my hunts consist of Target and Walmart pretty much exclusively. Without TRU there are less places to hunt and that’s been a bit of a bummer. Hell since they’ve closed I find myself going less and less to retail establishments, especially compared to when I started collecting about 2 years ago. Oh well, I guess I’ll be buying even MORE online from this point forward.

I miss TRU for nostalgia and hunting reasons like everybody else. I really don't hunt at Target or Wal-Mart unless I absolutely have to and mine are so bad that I usually end up resorting to online. My TRU was like three blocks away from me so I'd go multiple times per week just for fun ... but on the flip side I will say it's probably been tremendous for my wallet. I'd search for WWE figures but would often end up buying something else that I didn't need ... now I just buy specifically what I need online or through RSC.
So yeah, I totally miss TRU and will always miss it. But in a perverse way I can see some benefits as I try to cut back on figure spending, lol.

The only TRU I ever hunted at was 50 miles away in a bigger city. I'd stop by it about once a month when I'd trek up there. Now that it and a movie store closed down, I hate trekking to that side of town unless I know the Target has something good.
What I really hate was losing my Kmart, especially since my city isn't even gonna try to land a Target to fill the retail void. Nah, a mother lovin Olive Garden sounds much huggin better...

When TRU would have those 2 Basics/$15 or 2 Elites/$30 sales, I could never even find a second figure I wanted, LOL.

Someone told me my local TRU is going to be used to sell Halloween costumes. That's happened here already. It was open so I went inside and immediately felt weird. One curtain was pulled back for employees to go back and forth with stock and I saw all the intact aisles and the bike area and I felt pretty bummed.

Damn, I don't even think I want to go in and see that. I use to live like 2min from a K-Mart, never turned into a Super K-Mart, but I went there as a kid all the time. Of course it closed, and it has been many companies since then, and I applied at one of the companies there so I went inside and definitely felt weird.

I'd end up buying random Funko Pops, Star Wars or something from the collectibles section that looked neat. I haven't bought more than a handful of basics since the first year of the line, lol.

I drove by it for the first time since it closed and didn't even want to look at it. :/ Such a bummer.

I think scalpers and the re-sell market also killed retail. What's the point of going to the store when chances are whatever you want is not in stock? May as well buy online, even if it costs five bucks more.
I grew up during the heyday of Toys R Us (late 80s-mid 90s). As I entered high school and college, there wasn't a Toys R Us closeby and lost interest in figures a bit. About ten years back, my interest picked back up and I finally had time to visit Toys R Us stores. But it just wasn't the same. The stores were dingy and dirty. There were fewer shelves and many of them were pretty bare. The employees didn't seem to care about their jobs or the once-magical environment they worked in. It was just a depressing experience overall. Seeing Toys R Us close is like putting down a good dog whose best days are behind him. It's still painful but probably for the best. Hopefully something else will come to the market and help re-create some of that magic. I would like to think there is always a place in kids' hearts for creativity outside of digital experiences.

The signs are still up at my TRU. It's sad to see it vacant. I'd kill to have the 80s era Geoffrey entrance sign on the building.

I asked if I could buy the entrance sign above the doors to the store, but they had no control over that. That sign is only being removed if a new store moves in.

I hear you. Going to Toys R Us was a weekly routine for myself and my friends. This is also gonna sound weird but my toys r us is where I asked a high school fling to be my girlfriend...there’s nothing any of us could do. The business was run like a crap show.
