WFWF: El Grito de Dolores Review

You know, this show almost didn’t happen. There were reports of backstage drama all throughout the promotion and eventual, day of the show. WFWF wrestlers Shuggy, Mesh and Sean Casey were the only ones that were able to enter the country without issue, which is why they were booked for an autograph signing early in the month while the rest of the company struggled to gain entry. WFWF officials struggled with production and many members of the creative team were running late, due to personal issues. One of the higher ups of the company was reportedly close to quitting due to stress.

What gave the company even more pressure was the fact that the show was sold out in 6.9 minutes! Added security was hired on short notice due to the presence of one Michael Kyzer and reportedly, Drakz ghosted everyone in the company, pretty much leaving his appearance up in the air. It seemed like El Grito de Dolores was, indeed bound to make the WFWF cry…
But lucky for them, this show was excellent! From top to bottom, this was a stacked card and the company truly brought out in the big guns for the closing moments which still, as I sit in my hotel room typing this – gives me goosebumps thinking about what’s next. I know I tend to be snarky and bury the product but I gotta be honest with you guys – El Grito de Dolores was great but that doesn’t mean that it was perfect. There were some segments that didn’t work, ironically enough – both of them featured Mesh and I didn’t like the finish to Mesh/Priceless II. What should have been the match of the night turned out to be a major disappointment.
And please for the love of God, whenever Shuggy speaks – INCLUDE SUBTITLES. The guy has such a thick accent, it’s near impossible to understand what in the hell he is saying.
RYAN “NEEDLES” PAYNE vs. LANCE RODRIGUEZ (**)
I’m noticing a pattern whenever Needles “wrestles” – I say that in quotations because the guy isn’t exactly a wrestler, he’s more of a hellraiser. Gotta be honest though, his shtick is getting kinda old. It was epic when he first debuted but now...it seems like he does that every show. I’m still throwing shade at the company for booking him, despite having his throat crushed at the last show.
TYLER DRAVEN vs. SEAN CASEY (-**)
This right here, should have been the match of the night. Hell – match of the year! Instead, it lasted just a few minutes. I would say I was very disappointed but that would be an understatement. Furious maybe? Biggest disappointment of the year, by far.
SHUGGY vs. BILLY BROOM (**)
Comedy match with two comedy wrestlers, to be honest. Shuggy does some good-looking spots but his gimmick….ugh, he’s like Mesh with a, well you know.
MESH vs. CHRIS PRICELESS (**1/2)
This is the second time these two have wrestled and while I prefer their first match to this one, Priceless is such a beast! The finish for this match pissed me off! A roll-up!?! Who came up with such a lazy and half-assed finish? What’s even worse is the finals of the World Domination Tournament for the WFWF Vanguard Championship, it’s going to be Shuggy vs. Mesh…..

Let that sink in….
ANTE WHITNER vs. FRANK LYNN (****)
Okay, this is why I love pro wrestling, because of matches like these. Now normally, I prefer blood in wrestling when it makes sense which it did here. This match had everything: drama, violence, false finishes, it was a battle! I was on the edge of my seat the entire time! Definitely go back and watch this one back! Frank continues to prove why he’s the G.O.A.T. My only compliant of this classic was that Daphne, sometimes made herself the focal point of a few spots rather than it being about Frank and Whitner.

Important reminder: Rumors are just that -- rumors. None of this has been confirmed as legitimate news, it’s just circulating around the pro wrestling rumor mill, but we present it as fact. Remember, take it all with a grain of salt. Or not. Up to you.
- The new WFWF Vanguard Championship was unveiled at this show but according to rumors, the new strap went through many name changes before the company went with its namesake. Some of the supposed names were:
- WFWF Universal Champion
- WFWF Super Mega Drive Champion
- WFWF Illmatic Champion
- WFWF vs. The World Champion
- WFWF World Tour Champion
- WFWF [SUPREME] Champion
- WFWF Winner, Winner, Chicken Dinner Champion
- WFWF Assistant to the Regional Manager Champion
- Rumor has it that Ryan “Needles” Payne is a big fan of….Elmo? Supposedly, Needles doesn’t have his own locker room. He just shows up whenever he’s booked but those who were backstage were rumored to see an Elmo plushie in his bag.
What. The. F***.
- For those that watched El Grito de Dolores noticed that David Brennan came back from his “injury”. Well, that’s because he finished filming his two movie projects that he signed up for, according to rumors. Magic Mike DDXL and Wet Dreams May Come are expected to be released in theaters near you soon.
- When he's not filming movies, David Brennan is butting heads....with politicians?! As more of a followup to last month's rumor mill, A-wut, the Thai boy that was serving as the representative of injured David Brennan since Second to None is rumored to have been deported. This, apparently upset Brennan who then flew to Washington DC to confront President Von Tweeto but he was away on a golfing trip in Florida. According to rumors, Brennan got into a scuffle with White House Representatives and was thrown out of the White House. Many wrestling sites reported that the White House then gave Brennan a "one-way" ticket to Mexico so he could attend the show. That, however is false. Brennan supposedly broke into the White House via the air conditioning vents, stole A-wut's immigration papers and it was there where he learned that President Von Tweeto is a big WFWF fan, having bought two tickets for himself and The First Lady for El Grito de Dolores. Brennan is rumored to have stolen the tickets, A-wut's papers and escaped by breaking the window. The big question is: who did David Brennan give the other ticket to?
