I've been collecting all kinds of wrestling figures since 1985, starting with WWF LJN & AWA Remco and I have to say that Mattel seems to be making the most realistic looking product. I know some of us have some issues with Mattel (some wrestler scales are way off) but when I look at my tubs full of figures, I am surprised how bad some of the figures that other companies put out. I loved Jakks figures, but as Mattel started making figures, the Jakks Ruthless/Deluxe Aggression bodies looked so overly puffed up. What were/are the best (or your favorite) wrestling figures made? What were the worst?

Can’t beat elites. Sometimes we are hard on certain ones cos we’ve seen how great they can be.
Any non wrestling line is the worst for me. Zombies, monsters or anything of that nature.

I've been collecting wrestling figures since the early 90s and have collected a ton of other non-WWE lines over the years. Mattel's elites are absolutely the best WWE figures ever. Could this change someday? Of course ... if we ever get up to Hot Toys style WWE figures, whether in 1/6 scale or six-inch scale, that would be the very best imaginable. But Mattel's WWE line (again, I stick with only Elites ... I think the basic figures are pretty bad) should be up there with any other toy line that is considered one of the best ever in the six-inch scale. (And, again, sixth scale figures are an entirely different league.)

Overall - Yes, Mattel (Mainly Elites) are some of the best figures made, almost like a scaled down version of the actual person.
But in certain areas, Jakks did much better than Mattel, the most notable one being headscans. While Mattel does good headscans and are getting even better, Jakks made some of the best i've seen. Jakks nailed the majority of Edge figures while Mattel struggles to make a decent one. Same with HBK in his later years, Jakks ones looked great while Mattel's look like a lifeless, hollow person with overly orange hair. A couple of others Jakks did better than Mattel at are: Triple H (Except for his Basic 23 and Elite 60) The Undertaker Rob Van Dam Booker T

I guess it depends on what you want, I love LJNs because you can beat the $#!? out of them and they don't change much, but with Mattel, you put them in a bin and they warp and deform, paint "smootches" off onto other figures and the plastic sucks up ink, but the scale and attention to detail(and reality(except for Triple H)) are unmatched.
I think TTL are the worst, because I loved BCAs and Jakks was trying to replace them since 1997(they expected STOMP would replace it), so they came out with these ugly, gimmicked, more expensive figures and even when they had better likenesses, they were still attached to that weird posturing body.

I think it all depends on what’s released at the time because there was a time where Jakks TTLs and RA/DA were the best wrestling figures at the time but Mattel are doing a very good job. My only beef with them was the face paint apps weren’t as good compared to Jakks, E16 Rock still has one of the worst beards I’ve ever seen but that’s changed with the face print tech they’re using now. As for worst figures of all time, Jakks Pump N Flex wins that easy: forum.wrestlingfigs.com/thread/353174/monstrosity-figure the scale and attention to detail(and reality(except for Triple H)) Really? I thought the latest elite HHH was one of Mattels finest scans I’m not sure if he’s on about the scan, I’m assuming he’s talking about the torso choice because current HHH should have the Bulldog torso IMO. Too many wrestlers are too ripped like The Rock, Ric Flair, Kurt Angle etc.

How can it be with all the complaining about the lack of Legends and wishing they had the Jakks CS checklist? But really, its hard to compare between time periods and differences in technology and how the signing of wrestlers are handled.

He looks worlds better than any Mattel (scan wise).

I think thus far Mattel is the best. However, there are things that I don’t like in the line that I believe jakks did better on. Mattel pays attention to detail and gave us more character specific molds as well as scale. Jakks however did a better paintjob on heads in general, although they weren’t perfect all the time (green hair etc). They would usually give us nice attention to shading, fades which generally look nice. Mattel has good scans it’s the crappy paintjobs that ruin some. Another thing I’ve noticed about paint apps is that jakks normally looked more crisp, Mattel’s looks like they’ve been given one coat and look transparent. Last, but not least I preferred the softer rubber used on the hair on jakks. Most of Mattel’s have rigid hair which limits neck movement ala elite DDP. If anyone has the classic deluxe DDP please post a headshot next to the Mattel elite DDP to see what I’m referring to as far as paint apps.

I'd argue that Mattel's scans are equal to if not greater than Jakks. Especially now with this new face print technology they're using. People seem to forget Jakks had plenty of stinkers too.

Ive also collected everything from WCW Galoob To Hasbro to all the various wwf/e incarnations.
In some ways, the LJN and some of the mid 90s wcw fogs are the worst. Shoddy paint and not alot of mobility. Some of the BCA and TTLs had the worst sculpts ever but the format lf those figs still had decent playability.
To be honest and close to objective, Mattel really does releaae the best overall wrestling figure product. They took alot of the progress that jakks had made w the CS and RA lines and then improved upon even that.
