Not true at all, these are great for little kids, cartoon style figures are great for little WWE fans to get their hands on, 4 or 5 year olds who love wrestling are probably not quite mature enough for play with an Elite, these wouldnt have seen the light of day if they were aimed at mainly Hasbro fans, they wouldnt sell anywhere near enough That may be true - but the figures are for age 12+ (as it says on the front of the cards)... which suggests they're being marketed towards older kids and fans. Now perhaps, but the first ones were 6 plus, its only because of the crappy app thing

If this line crashes and burns the true shame of it would be that the responsibility and blame would be 70% Mattel / 30% consumer. Had this line hit with a somewhat normal distribution, fewer jumpers and maybe a ring release at retail on the front end, we aren’t having this conversation today.
I’m sure there are tons of hurdles and obsticals to launching a line like this that we don’t grasp. That said, let’s hope Mattel owns some of the responsibly for where we are today and at least gives the line an opportunity to continue under a new structure (online only) as opposed to scrapping it all together.
Hell, at this point, you have all the assets you need for the line. Just do a simple search of any of the Facebook groups where people post Retro customs. Pop the head off of an Elite or Basic figure, throw it on the Austin body or the Rock body or any of the molds you have already created, paint it up and you are done. Remaining combinations with almost no effort are endless.

The majority of retro customs and customs in general look awful, my point is demonstrated by your avatar pic, with a guitar the same size as the figure. I would break down the blame for the line stuttering thus, 10% Mattel, 50% retailers and 40% consumer. Out of curiosity, whats wrong with the jumpers? In your opinion. Balor, great choice, coup de grace. goldberg again, good choice, spear. Sting, stinger splash. Seth and HHH do the pedigree, what would you have preferred Kofi do? Hes known for is airborne moves. I dont think i missed any, i am pretty happy with the jumper move being used for those guys and cant think of any of the other hasbro style moves that would have fitted better, can you?

It's not so much the actual action of jumping, it's the pose that looks ridiculous. How often does a wrestler stand in the ring with their legs completely together? I'll give you the coup de grace, but other than that? You can make a jumping action without the legs stuck together. Also, explain to me to how the pedigree works on a jumper with their legs together?

Haha yeah the pedigree i will concede, they couldnt change it though, they followed the hasbro line, it me be odd but it works and they are a bit of fun, which is why i was very surprised when the price went up to pay for the stand and app feature

The stands aren't even really designed for Retros. Going from around $10 to $14 is a big jump. I've been thinking about buying an extra Sami Zayn to make a custom, but the price point has kept me from doing so. If it was around $10, I would have already.

I'm not saying you put Facebook customizers in charge of the line. My point is that, moving forward, the heavy lifting is done. The Retro scale gives you wiggle room to be a little "off" when it comes to size. People aren't demanding blinding accuracy. Take the guitar out of that pic and you have a ready made Elias. Elias Head - ALREADY MADE. Ambrose Body - ALREADY MADE. Boom. Series 9, go for it.
The jumpers were OK. Good tribute to the old line but it's never been a pose that would blow you away. With a figure with limited points of articulation it is better to have as many free, non-joined limbs as possible.

That may be true - but the figures are for age 12+ (as it says on the front of the cards)... which suggests they're being marketed towards older kids and fans. Now perhaps, but the first ones were 6 plus, its only because of the crappy app thing They may have realized or decided that the figures/line mainly appealed to older kids (or "big kids") and collectors - I don't think they would have introduced the app thing, increased the price and made them 12+ if they were mainly marketing them for kids. Having said that though, the character choice and distribution of this line is all over the place - so you may as well add the marketing to that list too...

Gonna catch flak but these damn things have been rotting on shelves since day 1 in my area and quite frankly I'm not surprised. It's a line that specifically targets older fans who had Hasbros and kids don't want them because why in God's name would they when basics are better to play with and are around the same price point.
The lack of flashbacks and distribution aren't what's killing the line. It's just not a good series for their core demo and if I'm being honest I think a pretty good chunk of the adult collectors probably don't care about them either.

They need to get this line back at Wal-Mart already.

The distribution has been rubbish! The lack of flashback/ legends has hurt sales... i would have thought mattel would have been all over this due to the hasbro collector age demographic! Can only hope the next few series have more old school guys!

Just waiting for the good ol' "These are toys made for KIDS" argument. Hahaha! On that note, I really wish these were popular with kids, but how do you sell a kid on a 10$ figure that doesn't fit with the rest of their basics and with the rest of the shelf full of basics for the same price? I feel like using the 6.99$ price point would have made this a viable "secondary line" for kids. I say this because I don't mind little kids being an equal if not dominant demographic for these if it means they keep making them with flashbacks thrown in.

I like the retro figures but if they we're going to include a accessory and raise the price it should of been a belt or a small chair or something and not stands. We never got belts with the Hasbro figures except the ring had the world belt but it would of been nice to see some retro accessories.

I think if Mattel partnered with WWE Champions, The Retro line would have done better. There are over 15,000 users that play daily, everyone in a top 100 faction spends money on the game (I'm talking crazy amounts). I, personally, know that toy collectors play. Also, WWE RAW and Smackdown promote Champions during the shows... when was the last time you heard Mayhem pushed on TV? Mattel backed the wrong horse.
That said, the sole reason why newer series are not at stores is because everyone here is pre-ordering online. Bill can say all he wants about the success of the original wave. It only was success because you Hasbro lovers HAD to buy them at stores! Unless you are a Dad with kids, NO KIDS BUY THESE WILLINGLY! Most collectors are caught up and waiting...

I bought a few of the first set and then passed on all but steve austin on the second set. Then months later I go to a walmart and they had a dozen unsold series 2 on clearance for $2 a piece. So I bought the rest of series 2 and series 1 leftovers. So I totally agree with you. The demand just might not be there. When they where walmart exclusive they where special but still didn't sell the greatest.

When they where walmart exclusive they where special but still didn't sell the greatest. That's where the whole distribution problem comes into play. At least for Series 2 mainly. I would have loved to walk into my Walmart and find dozens of Series 2 at two dollars. But of all the trips I made I literally only found Series 2 one time and one time only. And not even the full set- Kane and Sting were already gone by the time I got there. And that was back when they were still full priced and I never even thought they'd end up on clearance and sent to discount stores lol. If it weren't for the heads up from posts on here about TJ Maxx I still wouldn't have the one Sting and Kanes I found there. Series 3 I can't complain with and was selling fine at my Target. But now they got in so many of them that who knows when they'll clear out for the next ones lol. And I even had someone on here before telling me they were wishing they had the rows of Series 3 I had at my Target cause they never have had anything at all for any of the Retro line anywhere in their area. Online really does look like the main option for them at this point.

The 4 Targets in my area still have at least 7-8 or more warming pegs at all times. I took a pic a couple months ago but deleted it of about 20 Ultimate Warriors sitting on WalMart's clearance shelf with about 15 other retros next to them. I don't get why there is still a debate. They aren't selling because lack of demand.

Kmarts that still exist got the new zombies and series 6 retros but I think they are both like 15.99. Also elites at one Kmart I went to that is an hour away where $24.99.
So I bought the red and black sting but man that was really pushing it.
