Ken Patera(ex-con)The resurgence of Ken Patera in the Federation would come during the Spring of 87. This time however he was a changed man after spending some time in the slammer. We would be shown vignettes of Ken saying he was coming after his former manager Bobby Heenan for abandoning him during this whole ordeal. This would lead to a ''debate'' on Superstars that May between the two. Love Bobby's line here of'' you want a belt...I'll give ya a belt!'' then proceeds to whack em with a belt. Patera would get the upper hand and kayfabe injure Bobby's neck by swinging em with the belt wrapped around his neck. Real life Bobby was having neck issues so this was a way to bring them into storyline. The feud with the Family would pretty much take up the rest of the year for the Portland native. At the first SSeries, he would be apart of the ''Hulkamaniacs'' as they battled team Andre. He wouldnt last too long as he would eventually be eliminated by OMG. Heading in early 1988, he would join forces briefly with Billy Jack Haynes as they feuded with Demolition after the heels would take out Haynes kayfabe cousin in Brady Boone. From there it was on to WM IV in Atlantic City as he would participate in the battle royal but would come up short in the end. It was from here his 2nd run in the WWF was nearing its end at he would mostly be used in the jobber role. At the first SSlam he would face Bad News Brown in a losing effort. His final PPV appearance would come at SSeries as he would be apart of team Jake/Duggan as they faced team Andre. He would be the first one gone at the hands of Rick Rude. His last televised match that I can recall is against BNB on an episode of PTW a month later in another losing effort. Gorilla on commentary would say how Ken doesnt have it anymore and should consider hanging it up. He would depart the company before 1989 rolled around. He would return to the AWA one more time and have a brief tag title run with Brad Rheingans. Following this he would do some work on the indy scene but nothing of note worthy here. He'd be done from the biz by the late 90s. Overall...Was never a fan of babyface Patera. Bobby ripping on em about his jail time was the highlight of this run for me What are your memories of the ex-con? Share em below!

I like Ken, although this is the only run I am familiar with. The first match featuring him that I ever saw was Survivor Series 1988. I wish he had been in the 1988 Royal Rumble.

After SSeries 87, you could see em going on the downward trend. Teaming with Billy Jerk Haynes(who did nothing of note since WM III) did no favors

Ken Patera was a bit before my era of watching. I think the first time I ever saw him wrestle was Summer Slam 1988 against Bad News Brown - though well after the event actually took place. I didn't see much there, but I think he was mentally checked out at that point. Over the years, I've gone back and watched more of his matches, he was so much better as a heel. I think they wanted to try something new with him after the jail time, but I don't think he was ready to be a babyface - I don't think it suited him. I've watched some shoot videos of his, he did want to become a babyface during this run, but he wanted to start out as a heel again and slowly morph into a good guy. He's also said that he had zero input on any of the vignettes about his return; that could have been a reason why this didn't go far, he just wasn't into the storyline. I think the start of it was good with him and Heenan doing the debate, and the following stuff to build the feud, but after Survivor Series, it just didn't seem to go anywhere. Also, the WWF seemed to move on from the storyline rather quickly. I don't remember Patera ever really getting revenge on Heenan or the family. By the end of 1987, and the beginning of 1988, Patera wasn't even feuding with the Heenan family and was put into a tag team with Billy Jerk Haynes... very odd.

Nope just quietly dropped by years end. He did have that biceps injury prior to SSeries so that didnt help out matters I'm sure

Definitely need a few figures of Ken Patera. I would say maybe three, at least. 1. heel version, blonde hair, blue (or is it purple???) singlet, entrance attire, and a few extra heads with different expressions. 2. heel and face version, one head with blonde hair, one head with brown hair, entrance attire, and black singlet. 3. babyface version, brown hair, entrance jacket, red white and blue singlet.

Great write-up, but I wish it would have been heel Patera. He had the sickest submission move. He called it the swinging neck breaker. It was a full nelson, but then he'd swing his opponent around.

babyface patera was past his prime for sure. the biggest thing with him was gettin whipped on tv by the heenan family. i liked him, but he didnt get to do much. was glad he was on hulks team at ss87 (loved that whole original team with graham). we didnt get to see him get his revenge on heeenan which sucked. and im still lookin for the hulk/patera vs andre/herc match
