I knew they would eventually shorten his name, but I thought they could cut out the Andrade part and just call him Cien Almas. Turns out it's the other way around.

You’re give people heart attacks with that title. I originally had it as 'RIP Cien Almas', and I figured that probably wouldn't end well.

As I said in the SD thread, if nothing else, I would have just went with Almas. Cant wait for AEW.. So tired of this bs. Comments like this is exactly why some people are already sick of hearing about AEW. It's a shorter name, not life or death. You'll survive this.

Two things I don't get:
1. How does WWE decide whether to cut the first name or the last name or abbreviate? 2. Some of the wrestlers whose names get cut come from NXT. Adrian Neville, Andrade Almas are examples. Why not change their name then? What's the point of establishing a name in one of your brands, then doing away with it?

God forbid I don't enjoy what you do. No that’s fine. But I’ve never seen you trash Almas at all until someone called him great in the SmackDown thread. Maybe I’m jumping to conclusions but I’m remaining suspicious. Go back and look through my posts. I've never enjoyed the guy. Actually I normally call him del rio jr. Without a manager he'd be on 205 live. I've watched paint dry and enjoyed it more.

People are actually more pissed about this than other name changes lol. They even were chanting “Who’s Andrade” last night. He was recognizable by the second half of the name, not the first. So yeah, who the hell is Andrade is right.
The change has flooded social media with outrage lol kinda crazy. I wouldn’t be surprised if WWE changes it back or at least swaps it to “Cien Alamas” if they want a shortened name that badly.

It's hilarious that people get so worked up about this.
Because it totally ruined Rusev. And Cesaro. And Big E. And Elias.
And Andrade totally didn't just have an incredible match on Smackdown.
But yea, those dastardly WWE higher ups are ruining wrestling this way.

I can’t wait for everyone to lose their $h!t when Aleister, Gargano, and Ciampa debut with a single name.

But yea, those dastardly WWE higher ups are ruining wrestling this way. I mean, at least all of those examples still sound decent. Andrade just sounds... flat. It feels like there should be something coming after it. If they just called him Antonio instead of Cesaro, that would be equally as weird. And for the record, I still miss Langston.

Cant wait for AEW.. So tired of this bs. Shortening a name does that much to your psyche huh? LOL If you read deeper into it, there's much to it than that. Just tired of the constant "marketing" and dumbing down of the product that Vince absolutely loves to drill in everyone's head. It's not the losing Almas name, it's almost EVERYONE losing their name. We have Rusev, Cesaro, Sheamus, Elias, Big E, Apollo (for a while), Rowan, Harper, Ciampa, Neville and I cant remember who else but that so many names shortened at one point in time. It reminds me of something that Prichard said in a recent podcast, that he feels like right now there is not a lot of focus on story and especially characters. Shortening a name for the sake of helping their brand is not gonna do it, its developing the character.
