It's different, because when the series came back, Steve said they would focus on the legends people wanted
And they have. Thing is, people don’t all want the same legends. That’s a bit of a stretch. I think you know what he meant by that. The amount of people clamoring for Bob Orton, Volkoff, Ref Muhammad Ali, Wendi Richter, or Phantom Undertaker has to be very, very low. We are the hardcore fans of the niche product and I doubt the casuals would be drawn in by any of those. Steve is a very talented, very intelligent person. I trust that he has a solid strategy with these but also get the impression that there are more hoops that he has to jump through than any of us will ever know. Out of everyone here, I have probably been the hardest on him/most critical of the Retros. Sometimes my critiques are justified and other times I have been proven wrong or had a change of heart once I got the figures in hand. Part of the reason I judge them so harshly is because I want them to be better. I believe it is possible. Sometimes there is “the best we can do” and other times there is “that’s good enough.” Retros have danced between that line with no explanation as to why. Not that we are entitled to it. It’s unlikely that anyone from Mattel is willing or allowed to just come out and talk about the shortcomings that this line (or any line) has. But when questions aren’t answered, the best we can do is speculate and hypothesize. For the good of the line, I hope some of the issues we have seen do get addressed (not just the selection of stars).

And most of those figures have had someone whining about them, so people very obviously don’t all want the same figures.

There is a massive difference between “people don’t all want the same figures” and not making the most requested figures available (which seems to have been implied). Not sure what point you are trying to make or if you are arguing just to argue. Or maybe you weren’t reading it that way.

I wanted the New Age Outlaws. I guess I’m the outlier. I mean, this is the retro line. Their debut was like 97-ish, IIRC. I don’t ever remember reading that the retro line would only cover a specific era. We’re getting the stars of yesteryear. No current acts since the relaunch. Seems like anything from the past is fair game. Yeah, people like different eras and some people want to collect further out in before or after Hasbro's time period than others. I'm on the fence about Attitude era, as I don't look back on it with much nostalgia, but I like WCW through most of 98, so maybe I oughta have the WWF guys from the same time period? I dunno, I keep flip flopping haha. I do sorta want to actually play with these things again someday, so I kinda want to build out both federations so I can have those super cards I dreamed of when I was a kid. So maybe I'll grab those DX sets after all, but I'll likely wait for them to drop in price to what the NWO set is currently at. Have they run sale prices on Retros in the past few months? Or are those pretty much usually at the fixed price until they've been around a while and then they just drop the regular price? I guess in general, so long as they don't waste spots on modern guys, most won't complain too much.

got the DX figs in hand today and I'm a fan! they are cartoony and fun - really nice to have the outlaws for my ever-growing retro fed too, and Chyna to run some interference!

Wieners on this board: Mattel should only make retros of guys who were active in wwe from 90-94!!!! *mattel makes Nikolai Volkoff who wrestled in wwe in 90, 92 and 94* Wieners on this board: Noooooo! Not like that!!!!!

Again, my $0.02 from I think yesterday, was that I prefer Mattel retros to mirror the era from Hasbro with talent; just like I want Coliseums to mirror the LJN era. But in the long run, it's not that serious.

I think anyone from Golden Era to Attitude Era is fair game, as long as they keep away from modern guys. That along with their terrible distribution is what killed the line originally. I am 50/50 on the line so far, they have made some great figures, but they have also made a bunch that I think are flat out terrible! But hey, that is just my opinion and if you love them all, more power to you and I am happy for you. We can like different things and that is ok

Personally, I think that some of the modern guy retros were pretty cool, and I'd be happy to see more of those. A retro Bloodline as the next Ringside Exclusives 4-pack (featuring Roman, the Usos and the Wise Man) - that would be totally awesome.

Mr.t was only 2.99 bucks. They had 4 rounds of sales. If i remember correctly by 3.0 (end of cyber monday week) s1 and s2 were sold out. The exclusives are adding up so they might not wait till next cyber monday to get these moving. You probably have plenty of time still. Most people who collect loose are waiting too. I already bought my sealed set and like you i am just waiting on that dx set to drop down a bit as well. Luckily for us we can get these anytime we want but never wait too long as resellers will not sell them cheap once they are gone.

What are we thinking for this week? Mania reveals, will we get anything new? I’d love to see the next two waves, but I usually end end a bit disappointed - history has taught me that they’ll likely show 2 guys from the next wave, or at the very best all four from the next wave.

I hope we see something. At least a couple from the next wave after the Alundra set, and if we don't see anything for RSC I'd fear they're dropping their exclusives and we'll be back down to only 8 figures a year. In a perfect world, they'd up the rate of releases a bit. Would love to get 3-4 waves from Creations, plus maybe 3 a year from RSC. I think there's tons of options if they are open full blown between LJN to Attitude era, and WCW. A set here and there that some people are a little dissapointed with wouldn't be a huge deal if we were getting 20+ figs a year, but if we're only getting 8, it's a pretty big blow and kills off excitement. Don't know if they ever announced release for the Alundra set? But, would be a nice surprise if it were in hand and ready for purchase this weekend. And an announcement that they'll be going to a more frequent release schedule. But, realistically, I think alot of us will be dissapointed.

One last thing to add here, not to be morbid, but most of the Hasbro era collectors aint getting any younger. Myself included, so I would very much like to see more figures released per year than less. Especially if the time periods are ranging from the early 80's to the late 90's. So many names, gimmicks and looks that are still on the table. Plus they should strike while they can since who knows what deals will expire when.
I am a bit concerned we haven't seen anything previewed for another Ringside set and the last ones have been in hands for a bit now.
Suppose the same can be said for legends lines in general, but I do feel as though they hammer out alot a year in the main lines.
Well, just food for thought. Here's hoping for an exciting weekend.

Got my first two rings, opened one to set up and two of the turnbuckle posts slid into the ring at an awkward angle, which makes the square of the ropes skewed in two directions 🫤

I know that Owen Hart would be a major missing piece, but does Mattel have all the rights that they could do a 97 Hart Foundation 4 pack on Ringside?
Bret, Bulldog, Anvil & Pillman?

They probably could, but with how few of these we get, I'd rather they focus on something else. We have a 1996 Bulldog coming in the next set. It's basically the exact same as his Hart Foundation look. The 80s Anvil could also pass for a 1997 Anvil. "Close enough."
