A flamboyant self absorbed model? Kinda like Rick Martel or even Shawn Michaels to a degree? Times are different now. Nobody with a cartoonish gimmick like that are the main guys. Other than Kofi/New Day, Matt Hardy, and Bray Wyatt, who else has gotten over with a cartoonish gimmick in the last 10 years? Not saying he shouldve been THE GUY but could've been a midcard star

I really would like to see the WWE run outside of Vince's image so all the staunch defenders can every week go "This is all just Indy stuff now. I can go to a school gymnasium to watch this flippy crap." Do you watch the shows currently? They're already full of guys doing flips and dives, have been for years. Suicide dive is the go-to spot to lead into an ad break on Raw. One thing Vince McMahon doesn't have a problem with is little guys from the indies doing dives and flips. He's even booked two of them to be the Universal title match at his next PPV. The idea that he'd be against that doesn't work alongside the idea that he micromanages everything.

I personally dont buy any of this. Vince isnt perfect and never has been but the problem is and always will be the fans. You literally cant make them happy. The fans literally chose the champions they wanted after Mania and here we are a month later and people bitch about Kofi not being "champion like" or Becky gimmick getting stale or Ryder and Hawkins being boring and bringing the RAW titles down. That was always gonna be the problem. There are people who only wanted those things because they thought Vince McMahon didn't want them. Now Vince McMahon has booked them, those people lose interest in them. It's maybe partly WWE's fault for booking the corporation as the heel for the last 20 years. Not just wrestling. It's happened with Game of Thrones this year. Happens all the time in video gaming fandom. I've seen it on theme park forums too. Probably everything that people get deep into, they obsess over it to the point where eventually they just hate it.

I don't think it's much of a stretch to believe most of the current rumors floating around are rooted in truth.
The narrative in the 90's/00's was that WWE beat WCW because Vince was the ultimate authority who made all the decisions. It's not crazy to think that 20 years later that same model could be what gets them in trouble when you're talking about a 70+ year old man trying to write tv for an audience multiple generations younger.
WWE's growth over the past two decades has a lot to do with successfully targeting international markets, being on the forefront of new media, and creating a brand that was synonymous with pro wrestling. Vince undeniably had the golden touch basically from the early 80's through at least the 2010's. That's a virtually unparalleled run of success in ANY industry. It seems like that magic might be wearing off, and I could easily see working in WWE right now being absolute hell because of it.

Completely agree. He needs to be a team player. You need people to keep you in check and push you to grow the best business possible.

Vince McMahon once crushed Verne Gagne, when Gagne was an out of touch old man who had no idea how good his roster was or how to book them properly
Now Vince is Verne Gagne

I can't wait to see what happens to WWE once Vince lets it go to someone else, however that may happen.

Vince may be part of the problem, but the biggest problems are the fans and the internet. The fans are never happy even when they get what they wanted. And the internet has made everything way too transparent with dirt sheets and fans spoiling things that would otherwise be surprises if there were no internet.

Production overhaul is needed, new sets that make it feel different from tuning into certain shows. New titles that make the brands feel distinct. Long term stories, that make sense.

It was better when there wasn’t an internet where they blast everything that isn’t exactly what they want. Today’s fan mentality is “ I don’t care what anyone else likes if they don’t do exactly what I want them to do it sucks and how dare anyone have a different opinion”

I do not think Vince is the main problem. the problem is overexposure. Keeping up with the entire WWE product is like having a part-time job. If wrestling is your one and only interest and you do not have a full-time job or a family then I can see how you can watch all of the content WWE does on a weekly basis. People who work full time, have kids and like to actually watch and do other stuff could no way watch all the WWE content.

Everybody always speculates about foreign stars not getting pushed because of language uses, but Great Khali and Ahmed Johnson were champions at one point Love the line about Ahmed.

Meltzer is also saying that WWE is such huge fans of Almas that they are the ones paying for his English lessons.
