I think the best strategy for this event would of been to do like Kmart does with hot wheels and hand out tickets to everyone in line and raffle off the 50 figures, and with classic superstars series 1 I remember getting money for Easter and walking to kB toys the next day and much to my surprise there was ultimate warrior right in front on the pegs.

I drove up there from NYC. Got there right around 155. No figures and not that many people on line. You would think there would be ensuing since he was advertised for two whole hours but hey it’s Mattel and it’s Wal-Mart so I shouldn’t have expected much. I’m annoyed that I went up there for basically a nice drive but it is what it is. The event was planned like crap. The people at Walmart had no clue what was going on which also was not a surprise. It would have made more sense to have the figures at the table with him and one or two per person. Also would have made sense to have more than 50 figures for what even Mattel who is clueless as a toy company can be to accommodate at least an hours worth of people and a sought after figure. I wouldn’t have bought ten figures or some nonsense like that. I wanted one or two at most for the two attires but whatever I guess. This hobby is about the chase but after 30 years it’s getting old. It’s become frustrating and I’m frustrated enough at work. This should be fun and it isn’t anymore. I waited to read everyone’s posts before I commented because I didn’t want to come across overreacting but this was a clusterf@ck yesterday and it instead of promoting a legend and a great new figure along with the line you gave a license to these morons who were there to just scalp the figures. It’s a shame that the line has become this with the chase figures. Exactly what I said! It’s crazy that we don’t work for either of these companies yet we’re smart enough to know how this should have been handled. Not complicated at all to say “Hey, we don’t live under a rock so we know a lot of people buy these things in large quantities to then make a huge profit. So let’s be smart and have them at the front so when it’s their turn in line they can grab one and choose to get it signed.” Boom! Right there, didn’t take too much time to think that through. But like you said, it happened and it is what it is. I pray that they learn from this, I really do. Hopefully the next event Mattel is involved in, they make sure their customers that attend get treated fairly. 100% agreed!!!!

So I hear this went worse than an Air Jordan 11 Release.

Having 50 figures was a bad idea from the get go.

imagining Pat Patterson seeing people leave his signing and being in bad moods meeting him because they didn’t manage to get his toy...

A guy I follow on Twitter was posting updates about the signing as I was about to head up (I live in New Haven so it's not too bad a drive) and it stopped me in my tracks. I saw they only had a quantity of 50 and knew I'd never get one at that point. Sounds like an absolute cluster-f, glad I stayed home.
I went to a Def Leppard signing at Walmart like 20 years ago and they were just as disorganized and it was a whole ordeal. Just barely got to meet them as they cut the line off 6 people behind me, after waiting almost 4 hours. Walmart should never host meet and greets, really haha.

EVERY promotion they do ends up in disaster and mired in chit. It's like they just can't help but the most BASIC things up.

imagining Pat Patterson seeing people leave his signing and being in bad moods meeting him because they didn’t manage to get his toy... That's what I was wondering. Did anyone go just to meet him? I mean, one could have still at least gotten a legend's signature on something.

Its better than seeing your figure rotting on shelves. The people who showed up couldve gotten something else signed.

Realistically, when can this be anticipated in retail/"the wild"? If e68 just hit rsc last week, how long before Walmart has em?

They gave away a really nice 8x10 that he was signing for people.

"So you stuck around to meet him then?"
"FACK no, I just want his toy!"

I can see being bummed if you didn't get the figure to get it signed, but I'd have still stuck around to meet Pat.

I mean, one could have still at least gotten a legend's signature on something. A friend of mine drove down from Eastern Mass specifically to meet him. He didn't even want the figure, he was content to just get the 8x10 they were using. If he had managed to get his hands on a figure, he was going to give it to me.
