Hear me out.
So I think NXT's show is ruining new superstar's debuts. I miss when i could turn on Raw or smackdown and be excited about a new superstar and their vignettes for their debut, and having NXT around totally destroys that. There's no surprise because you already know who that person is and have been watching them in NXT for years. Yes I understand that them actually debuting on the main brands is also exciting but not near as fun to me as seeing someone completely new.
Yes I know OVW was almost the same thing as NXT, but it wasn't nationally televised and it was hush hush during the time period by WWE, so unless you read the dirtsheets you had no idea what was going on in OVW.
*Also, I like watching NXT but it should be a third brand or a show like Velocity/Sunday night heat.

I shared a thought a few months ago that NXT having international exposure has hurt the talent, creative wise. The developmental system used to comprise of isolated local/regional promotions where talent could learn the system, and the big show could simply fill a need or role needed for the roster. Now everybody is aware of the successes or recognize the names from the indies, and for one reason or another the main Creative hasn't adapted well. They still insist on an established hierarchy and "climbing the ladder of success", even though most have seen everything the "rookie" has to offer. Hard to have an underdog story if NXT has already done it.

It's somewhat mixed.
It's kind of cool to see it as the third brand; but it also advantages just being the developmental brand. It's tough call.

The majority of people who watch Raw & SD don't watch NXT (otherwise NXT's ratings would be higher). That makes them brand new for those who don't watch.
Plus, there's the stigma that when someone gets called up from NXT VKM does nothing with them past their first feud. More than anything, I'd think THAT kills the stigma about someone "debuting".

theoretically NXT should get them over so there is hype when they hit the main roster. this often works, but then the issue of no major plans for the individual on the main roster becomes apparent and their booking suffers
aleister black should be a big deal right now, as should ricochet. they botched em though.

BIG debuts are from back in the day, where someone would come from WCW or ECW. If NXT wasn't around, you mean to tell me you'd get excited for some unknown named Damien Priest coming soon vingettes on RAW?

no, Vince is ruining it by just bringing guys up with zero fanfare and then TELLING us why we should like them
they pretend NXT doesnt exist when its convenient for them, but then move a guy from NXT to RAW and act like every single WWE fan watches NXT too
it makes no sense at all. and if i was a "casual" viewer like the WWE truly cares to market too, why should i even care about Priest? there's no reason for anything outside of the fact that he debuted on RAW against heels

NXT is a cool way to bring guys in, but it's not the only way, and yeah, I do miss having those brand new never-before-seen ass kickers appear from out of nowhere to dominate. Now everyone is a kid with a dream, grateful for the opportunity. Its repetitive.

I think it worked when the number of Network subscribers was insignificant compared to the Raw and SmackDown! viewership. It used to be that you'd go from NXT, exclusive to the Network, where the show was seen by tens of thousands each week to the main roster, globally televised, where you would now be seen by millions every week.
NXT being on USA has hurt the mystique and purpose of it as a project, and its viewership is not that much smaller than Raw or SmackDown! now, so what does the wrestler gain by moving over? Who is seeing them that hasn't already seen them? I think it's eaten its own tail.

Can't help but wonder if AEW stars sign down the line will they make instant main roster debuts. a talent as polished as an MJF most likely goes straight to main roster, while if they got a jungle boy they'd probably put through their developmental/nxt. |

I agree that NXT does usually spoil a debut and superstars momentum as they are usually coming off of a loss before going up to the main roster. WWE creative doesn’t have the talent or intelligence to overcome that IMO

Pretty much unless your AJ Styles who went straight to the main event.
I feeling being in NXT ruins wrestler because their character gets built there and then erased when they go to RAW and Smackdown (Retribution). Or they keep their character and then they get buried right after. At this point us fans see the future where, they debut on these other shows and we already lose hope instantly because they won't be pushed anyway.

Yes. But also no. Because with the way things are today, people would still know everything about everyone even if they came from aew or tna or njpw or anywhere else. We just have to much access and want to know everything before it happens and that kills the genuine shock of things.
