While I'm all for Lashley being WWE Champion since it's something fresh, the whole situation with the way it's playing out sits a little uneasy with me, and I don't mean the way he went over Miz. The whole Title picture headed into Wrestlemania has been an absolute last minute scramble. They're literally making this up week by week as they go along. They've had Drew McIntyre more or less hold the WWE Championship for the entire year since Wrestlemania 36, and he's gone clean over the likes of Brock Lesnar, Goldberg, and Randy Orton. You'd have thought with Edge winning the Rumble and having the programme with Roman, that McIntyre would potentially be given a Wrestlemania Match with maybe John Cena, or Shane McMahon, since it looks like they're going that route with him taking over the direction Roman previously had. I initially thought around the time of the Rumble that it could potentially be leading to a Drew McIntyre vs Brock Lesnar vs Goldberg Triple Threat Match even. But the way they've hotshotted this Title around now just makes no sense. I understand you had to have Miz take the Title from Drew in cheap fashion, as you couldn't really put Lashley over clean on Drew. But where is the payoff in this debacle at Wrestlemania now? We either get Bobby Lashley vs Brock Lesnar, Bobby Lashley vs Drew McIntyre, or a Triple Threat, and with all those solutions, it would have made the absolute most sense for Lashley to be the one to win the Title at Wrestlemania, rather than have the moment on Raw. Him finally overcoming the 16 year chase and having his crowning moment was where the value was in all of this. So now, we either get Lashley retaining, which ultimately doesn't do much since he's already the Champion. Drew could win it back and have his proper Wrestlemania moment he never got last year, but ultimately we've already just seen a year of him with the Belt. Or Lesnar wins it, which whilst would be good to see, would only hotshot the Title even more. The whole thing is a complete mess. Lashley vs Lesnar as a Singles Match is probably more unique to see, but I can't see them removing Drew from the whole Title picture after holding it for the past year and just going clean over Goldberg last month to cement himself further. If Vince wants to do Bobby Lashley Vs. Brock Lesnar he is going to wait till next year's WrestleMania where they have a big crowed and it doesn't need to be a title match. Nobody wants to see Brock Lesnar near the title, he doesn't need the title. I'm not so sure, I think you'd need to strike while the iron is hot. The whole Title picture is in a state of hotshot transition right now, so it wouldn't be too left field to just have the one on one Match with Lesnar at this years Wrestlemania. I don't see it being something that needs to be particularly saved for an 80k crowd, it's not The Rock vs Roman Reigns, or The Rock vs Brock Lesnar, or Roman Reigns vs Goldberg etc. It's a Wrestlemania Match for sure, but more akin to Brock Lesnar vs Drew McIntyre. Plus, if you want to do it at next years, you'd more or less have to keep the strap on Lashley for the whole year to keep him looking as unbeatable as possible, and which by that point you're booked into a corner as Lashley has already held it for a year and everybody would be fairly tired of it, or he drops it to Lesnar who shows up once in a blue moon.

it would have made the absolute most sense for Lashley to be the one to win the Title at Wrestlemania, rather than have the moment on Raw. Bobby Lashley winning the belt isn't the endgame. The whole point of it is to build a monster heel for McIntyre to overcome at WrestleMania. There are plenty of other, better ways they could've got there, but the finish would be the same.

Drew just isn't champion caliber. That's not how you spell "Lashley". As for the question... The right time for Bobby Lashley to be WWE champion, is never, iyam. At least it's off the Miz though. McIntyre spent almost a year making the belt mean something, and now in the space of two weeks, it's become almost meaningless again.

Mosst of you never watched attitude era belt changes were common. It created more credibility mcintyre miz lashley thats like mankind rock hhh from '99. They need to stop the whole 9-14 month reigns that just bores people unpredictability is one reason attitude worked. Not wcw 2000 style but something where someone gets into the main event and leaves you guessing who could win.

I’m all about it, I LOVE the Hurt Business. That said, I feel terrible for the Miz. The fact that he only held it for a week makes the entire MITB briefcase drama of the past 9 or so months feel like a huge waste of time. It seriously did nothing good for anyone. Tucker turned heel and disappeared, Otis look like a dope losing the briefcase... then turned heel. Yes, we got some entertaining Miz/Morrison stuff, but Morrison is basically a jobber already and Miz is reinforced as an afterthought, and solidified as a non-main eventer. He deserved way better. I mean, he couldn’t have at least got out of Monday only to lose it at Fastlane?
Regardless, it’s clear that Lashley needed to get it from a transitional champion so that he can go into Wrestlemania presumably to face Drew McIntyre. I’m glad he finally got it, and It’s probably more well deserved now than ever, especially with MVP as a mouthpiece. They still owed him one after saddling him with that godawful Lana/Rusev wedding angle.
As for timing, yes he should’ve gotten it from Cena in 07, but how well do you think that would’ve gone with that terrible voice? Vince would’ve pulled the plug and he’d have been worse off than if he’d never won it. He’s a bonified monster now, and if they were to bring back Brock for the one off, they SHOULD have it be to put Lashley over strong. With the Hurt Business, Lashley has the potential to be an even better overall act that Brock’s by now tired old act.

His time was 2007, but rumor is that he was upset Cena was booked to win the 2008 Rumble where both were originally set to return (in addition to being upset Krystal was fired for asking Bobby to ax a storyline she wasn’t comfortable with).
Honestly I think everyone expected him to go over Cena at TGAB 2007. Cena was on a 10 month reign at that point and it would have absolutely made Bobby and not hurt Cena a bit had Bobby gone over. But even having that match at a B-level PPV was a mistake. Back then, Cena/Lashley screamed WM or SummerSlam main event to me.
Better late than never and I’m glad Bobby won the title, but it should have happened back in 2007 or 2008. Had it happened then, maybe he never leaves the WWE.

Both of his reigns to me from what I have seen from them have felt flat.

This is a long time coming and is well deserved.
I would love to see him hold it for a few months but I have a feeling that he will drop it back to Drew at Wrestlemania so Drew can have his "moment" in front of a crowd.

I wish Lashley wouldve been on Smackdown at the time, so he couldve won the World Heavyweight Championship instead of Great Khali. I think one of the issues is that the WWE had Cena and Batista already set as the top two stars of their main shows and they were hesitant to change that (atleast with Cena/late-2007 is when they started to position Taker and Edge as the top guys on Smackdown over Batista). The WWE was stubborn at this point in having only one top guy on each show, so Lashley was in a weird position once they took him off ECW (the WWE weren’t going to create another Austin, Rock, HHH dynamic like we had from 1999-2001). Though I agree that Lashley would have benefitted being on the opposite show from Cena. They could have built to a big Lashley/Batista match with Lashley eventually going over for the WHC. From there, they could tease a Cena/Lashley super-fight before finally pulling the trigger at WM25 or WM26. But with how everything went down, Lashley just seemed to loose all his momentum after failing to win the title at Vengeance and TGAB 2007. He only had one match before leaving the WWE following his loss to Cena, but that clean loss to Cena just took the steam out of his momentum and anything less than a rumble win during his return wouldnt have fix it IMO (which Bobby was apparently upset that Cena was booked to win the 2008 rumble when he felt he should have gotten the nod after putting Cena over the previous year).
