Yes. And the only aew ones that aren't classified as such are the ones who have contracts that include other roles beyond just wrestling. That's what I thought. So why is he (Andrew Yang) just calling out WWE? If we’re talking about how it comes off to the general public, you say you’re going after WWE people say “Oh wow!”, you say you’re going after AEW and most people say “What’s AEW?” There’s a bit of marketing involved. Also, not to start anything, but consider Vince’s political leanings compared to Yang’s. Personally, I do feel independent contractor status in WWE is suspect, when people aren’t allowed to do anything outside. Having said that, people sign contracts acknowledging they are independent contractors. The law can still supersede that, but it’s never really gained traction because there typically hasn’t been enough support among “the boys.” Historically, when wrestlers even bring up unionization, they are ostracized and possibly blackballed in the industry. That often causes wrestlers to just keep their mouths shut so they can continue to work and get booked. It’s hard to make real progress when there isn’t enough support among the people being impacted.

True, but only going after one company when all companies in the industry do this makes it look more like a vendetta/money grab than actually trying to get justice/fairness. Not saying they are wrong, or shouldn't try, but it looks suspect. And you make a great point about the fact that this is already known to the wrestlers and they sign the contracts anyway, I imagine that is why these cases never go very far in the courts. Also, I am not against unions or anything like that, but the wrestlers need to really think about the pros and cons of getting into a union in wrestling. I think Bischoff talked about this on one of his podcasts. Yes, getting a union will have its advantages, wrestlers will most likely get insurance and benefits. But, there is a downside as well, that will lower there pay significantly, and that means they will become employees to one company which could hurt some of these performers who like to have their freedom and go from place to place. Plus, I'm not sure if one wrestling company (WWE) could be unionized while the others (AEW, NJPW, TNA/Impact and other Independent Promotions) can't/won't be. I think all companies would have to agree to it/be a part of it which would mean that you are now solely contracted to one company during your contract period which could hurt some performers who work for multiple promotions. I think some wrestlers believe that they will not get a lot of the benefits so they would rather have their money upfront. For instance, I remember Roddy Piper talking about this a while back, maybe when he was in his 50s, he said that he (and most wrestlers) aren't going to make it to old age so they are never going to see their retirement/social security benefits anyway, so I think a lot of wrestlers would rather have the money upfront than wait. It's a sad situation.

Speaking as someone who leans more liberal, Andrew Yang is a total ing clownshow. I don't see this getting off the ground any time soon. He has been trying to do this for almost 2 years now. I doubt anything of any substance comes from this. “Trying” is a bit strong. He just mentions it on social media to pander to WWE-haters now and again 😂 When he’s feeling a little attention starved he’ll just do one of his I’M NOT FINISHED WITH YOU VINCE MCMAHON tweets so his replies fill up with yasssqueens for a bit. The funny thing is, if wrestling did get regulated in the US, WWE is the only company with the professional structure and revenue to survive it. The old boys chasing backdated paydays should jump on this now though, because there’s a good chance that more of their misdeeds are going to come out in the near future and those legends merch contracts might not be so forthcoming anymore anyway.

All of the above. Nothing in that Dark Side episode was new, it’s just been laughed off for twenty years as “boys will be boys” antics. Goldust’s behaviour on that flight was on par with Flair’s and didn’t even make the episode. And there are a ton of similar, or worse, stories out there. The Rockers and the ECW roster have had some awful anecdotes put on record over the years, that made people laugh at the time but that in hindsight are indicative of the rape culture in wrestling’s previous generations. Multiple people have talked about the Steiners tying people up and sodomising them backstage in WCW. And that’s just stuff we have already heard about. I can see a lot more victims potentially coming forward now, and stuff like Dark Side is really seeing an appetite for wrestling sleaze topics.
